After much thought I've decided to sell my old friend NDV 552. Its lived in my garage for 56 Years bought in 1969. I still have the original log book in my name in it also a V5 in my name. I did put it up for sale on here a few years ago, but withdrew it from sale as my son said it's all he's ever known in the garage and he wanted it. (he's now changed his mind) Basically I want it out the garage for another project. (he's not got any where to keep it)

Bike info:
Sunbeam S8 500cc Complete and running, however not been ridden for a number of years. No plastic parts all tinware present, 12v electrics, easy starter, its not show pony, it has been used in the past and has the usual wear marks and scratches. See photos for condition.

As we all know the old British bike market has collapsed, hence looking in the £3k region.
Open to offers, any question or more photo's ask away.

Cheers Barry GPXL_20251217_153424096.jpgPXL_20251217_153441307.jpgPXL_20251217_153450049.jpgPXL_20251217_153741300.jpgPXL_20251217_153753881.jpgPXL_20251217_153732179.jpg

I love it and am very tempted :care

My old Dad had one he bought in 76

He rebuilt it but only did about 3 mile on it

When he retired in 98 he had the S8 and a 3TA. He did the old "one day son, when I'm gone, all this will be yours" speech to which I responded with "that S8 will look the bollocks with some Ape Hangers on it"

He didn't look too impressed and sold the S8 two weeks later :tears

A bit of nostalgia for £3k, no mot needed no tax, a lovely thing to ride on a sunny Sunday.

Hi folks, NDV 552 now sold Subject the usual things. Thanks for the kind words. I'll miss it every time i go in the garage now but I still have this to look at.
Thanks
Barry G

Is that an R50 or R60? Geezer I knew had an R60 long term and used it pretty much all the time for his club rides - AJS&M and VMCC. Away trips; always on his R60.

And so quiet mechanically! Unlike the current bikes which sound like a bag of spanners in a tumble dryer.

Mine is a 1956 r50…hopefully Barry will tell us more about his 🙏

Hi Simon, Its 1965 R50/2 spent its early years in Somerset, then lived in a shed for 24 years.

Cheers Barry
Remarkable how little change in the r50 design between 1956 and 1965....I guess that a) the original design was pretty good and b) BMW was slow to change at that time.

I remember your dad's 3TA and S8 Paul, he restored them beautifully. I didn't realise he kept them up until retirement though although you have told me the apehangers story so you must have mentioned it!

Yes he owned them both well into retirement Dunc :thumby:

The 3TA went to a museum in Germany and the S8 went to a schoolteacher from Sheffield :teacher
