Hi guys,

Anybody got anything planned Sunday 3rd. Would like to go do some lanes/offroading anywhere outside the M25 if possible?

Myself (HP2) and mate of mine (Lootch - Africa Twin) appreciate a nice day outside with a pub lunch or something thrown inbetween :D

Any ideas or interest please post here :beerjug:

We are planning a trip round Salisbury plain.Bunch of pogos looking for mud and laughs.Nothing to difficult.Arrangements are a bit loose at the moment as the e mails only went out today. You would be welcome to join us.
PM me in about ten days - back from holiday then and I will have all the arrangements sorted.

I'm just sorting out a new off road toy, is this open/invite only? or for GS's only?
cheers
Millard

Millard,
Open invite just going to have a bit of a laugh.Going to get the maps out and find some new trails as we go.Plan is to do the loop round the plain. If it stays dry it will be pretty easy.If we get a lot of rain then bring on the mud!
I will be on the G450x.I will be heading out from Andover a few green lanes then out onto the plain.
Will probally be a good halfs days ride with some lunch at a pud if its sunny.

Just let me know if your in - pm me

Jay, will PM you either way by Thursday, just waiting of a coupla parts to get it together. Won't be bringing the GS though, trying out a new (very old) toy.
cheers
Millard

All,
Hopefully you have the PM's I have just sent.Plan is to meet up at the Garage in Tidworth. This is the one on the main road A338 its just after a mini roundabout.Meet at 9.30 to ride off at 10.
This is a relaxed ride out with stops for map raeding and no doubt a few wrong turns. We will be trying to get most of the way round Salisbury plain.A mix of bikes from pogos to full trailies.

Chaps ,
Thanks for your company today.Weather was very kind and the trails were perfect.Good to just get out and ride the bike.Enjoyed the route had a bit of everything today.
Most impressed with Millards 100% commitment to going thru the biggest deepest lake .
Ian I must admit to being impressed at how you hussled the Dakar along especially when we did the faster grassy tracks and the bits thru the trees just after we started.Makes me think about getting another 650!!

Thanks for a good ride out.

Jay B

Smashin day out, thanks Ian and Justin for your company.
Thanks also Justin for the bacon rolls and tea, magic, and for organising it.:thumb2

Tracks were perfect, just the right mix, specially for my first time out on that bike, thought it was me last at one stage, I'll bring me scuba gear next time :)

Let me know next time your out.:moped::moped::moped:

My thanks to you both Justin and Millard aka Das Boot, a great day out I have to say the bike performed as I hoped it would and I really enjoyed the day. Legend has it that the mud on Salisbury Plain is so valuable that an infamous pogo rider decided he wanted to take some home, how you might ask, well take a look at the pics. Glad you got it started again Millard.

Jay, I'm curious about fuel consumption on the Honda but forgot to reset my trip yesterday. Any idea how many miles we did from your house and back yesterday? and if so, any idea how many miles you and Ian did while I was fixing my bike?
cheers
Millard

Hi Millard,
We did 81 miles door to door and I think about 12 between leaving you and returning.Hope this helps.I have a nine ltr tank and it ran out on the drive as we pulled up.
Cheers

Jay B

Thanks J
I'm wondering if I have a larger than standard capacity tank now. I drained 5ltrs today and it's meant to be a 10ltr tank. That would mean a fuel consumption of around 65mpg, off road, with lower than standard gearing.
I'll find out next time I fill up, but am just wondering if I've stumbled on the worlds most frugal trail bike :nenau
BTW, I've only JUST finished the clear up of Plains mud!!! :D

Thanks J

As I understand it a two stroke gives better fuel efficiency when run at lower temperatures! Maybe you achieved this superb mpg because the engine was so cold because it spent most of the morning UNDER WATER!!!:pirate:pirate:pirate Oh and Justin towed you for at least 10 of those miles!!!

All very true Ian, but the real reason as I discovered is that the tank holds 2.2 ltrs more than I though. :blast

So 45mpg was the true figure. It means that I should have a 100+ mile range on a full tank on the trails, happy with that :)

Hmm thought the 65mpg was a bit high.100 mile tank is just about perfect I recon. This would give me a full days riding without having to think about routes that pass petrol stations.
Glad you got all the mud out in the end.

Jay B

Yeah it's about right I reckon, without making the tank too heavy.
Rebushing the forks tomorrow, MOT Monday, out on the Plain again on Tuesday, tuff life :D
