The weather has been really rubbish lately, but according to the weather forecast, this sunday looks quite reasonable.

Have decided I am going to take advantage of this fine weather and go for a proper ride out, not just for 5 miles to Rivington Barn. Have decided to do one of my favourite routes- A6 over Shap, A686 towards Alston (stop at the Hartside Top cafe for a bite to eat on the way), Middleton in Teesdale, Kirkby Stephen, Sedbergh then back to Devils Bridge. Have attached a route- approx 150 miles starting from Bull Beck picnic site just north of Lancaster. Thinking of setting off at approx 10.30 from there- if anyone wishes to come along they are more than welcome.

Rushy- I have made sure there are no farm tracks covered in slurry this time....:augie

I was up at Hartside last Sunday - Great run out.

Loads and loads of snow up there with loads of snow melt running across the road. Also the condition of the road down to Middleton in Teeside was very bad, loads of tiny chippings in the roads - I assume from all the ice breaking the tarmac up.

A few of the guys had some scary moments

John- leave the M6 at Junction 34- Morecambe and turn left on the A683 heading to Kirkby Lonsdale. After a couple of miles you will come through a village- this is Caton- there is a petrol station right in the middle. Carry on out of Caton and after 1/2 mile you will see a large layby on the right hand side. This is Bull Beck. There are loos and a cabin selling teas and bacon butties etc in the main car park. It is only a couple of miles from the motorway.

Plan from there is to go over Shap (A6), stop at Hartside Top cafe for a spot of lunch (and to warm up...) and then to Middleton in Teesdale. Prob have a loo stop there then to Kirby Stephen, then to Sedbergh and stop at Devils Bridge for a brew, then head back to the motorway from there.

Weather looks OKish- not summer by any means but should be OK for a day out. As it has been mild this week hopefully all the snow will be gone,

Might see you at the layby in Caton.....depends on timings really cos I wanted to get out earlier and get back earlier.....anyway, I'm on a 12GSA, but if i'm not there by 10:30, then get on your way and have a good'n:thumb.

Cheers
Steve

Was going to come along...set off but it started pissing down after two minutes, so did a shorter route in the peaks....Hope you had a good ride..:thumb

Had a great day out. It was raining around Preston and a bit dull when we set off, but there was plenty of sunshine up Hartside and around Middleton in Teesdale. It was a bit draughty though over the tops. Am now sat at home in front of the fire thawing out.

John- thanks for coming along- had a good day and hope you enjoyed it too. Those caponords can't half move- I couldn't shake you off no matter how hard I tried.

It was a brill day. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. some very nice roads. very good company too. Albeit a bit on the slow side :augie:augie:augie;);););););):.254 miles to my door.not bad for what looked like to be a shitty day
Please if you can post the route if not can you email me the route.
