Aaahhhh, Grasshopper, with age comes experience, with experience comes wisdom and with wisdom comes the appreciation of a reliable set of wheels.:bow:bow:bow

It is written (well, it is know:rolleyes:) that he who contemplates the inside of a Stein too frequently will become swayed by the beebaws and trinkets of the plastic fantastic and thus will surrender to the sway of cheap baubles and a claimed increase in power of 15BHP. He will not see that his 1200GSA weighs as much as an 1150GS.

The man from the hot place will drive the viewer of the Stein towards blackness, the desire for brightness and light will be driven from his mind and his transport will become black, the black of the abyss, the black of the apocalypse and more:-

he who is thus swayed will pay the price of
Canbus,
Final Drive failures,
http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=129408
http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=128883
plus various fuel pump failures
flat batteries every fortnight
etc.etc. ad infinitum
he will witness the cages of recovery vehicles
he will blaspheme(sp?), and swear at the breakdowns and failures as his knowledgeable BSc achieving partner applies their respected intellect and rides an 1150?:P with confidence in it's reliability:bounce1

This viewer of the Stein will fail to appreciate the wisdom of those "round the worlders" who still insist on the 11** as the machine for the job and accordingly will be flung upon the barren ground of marketing hype where he will become impoverished by his clouded sight.

Still, I'm looking forward to a good run tomorrow:D:thumb2 I must go now, I have a rather good glass of Port Charlotte to savour.:beerjug:

p.s. I'll be at the L. Chef at 09:00 but will happily wait until 09:30 or 10:00 as I can still easily make lunch for 12:00.

Yes caller and yir point is:nenau

:D

Dinnae slag Yogi he's keeping the streets safe so we can all sleep safely at night:blast:eek:

efter aw that I'm away to check the beast 1150GSA beasty starts that would be embarassing :D

I may attend this function. Open another tin of Campbells just in case Gordon.

It’s like something from Top Gear up here today, earlier on it was sub-zero now approaching cool  As the sun comes up its lifting the mist.
The off-road section will probably be the easiest today.

Hope the gritters have been out :(

ye can hae ma' share Den.

pit ma back oot this morning moving bike. :thedummy Hae a guid day lads an' lassies :tears. Hae tae try an walk it better noo or its the hard flair the nicht.

It's all the coonsill's fault.

Got up this morning to find our wee road covered in ice so made Fruitcake walk to the bottom of the hill while I trundled down wondering if I would dump the bike before I got to the bottom- where the gritters would have been.....

Not:spitfire:spitfire

Well at least the main road would be OK?:spitfire:spitfire:spitfire

Fecking huge ice patches accross the road into Oban to collect the Varadero where a conference was held and we decided not to go on to Fort Bill.

Andy invited us over to his place in Conel for a very welcome coffee and a seat by the Aga which was great- Thanks again Andy and Alison:thumb2

So we headed home again and of course the day warmed up but by then it was to late to get to the Lochy:(

Ach well, at least we got out- hope you all hada good one.

Well.......

I got up at 8, and got all my gear on and the bike out the garage. It had been oiled and filled with electricity overnight so all was well.
Fired her up and headed for the petrol station. £1-09 a litre!
Off down the M80 headed for the rendezvous and then.......splutter.....splutter.....donk......it cut out!
It felt just like the time the sidestand switch was gibbed but I modded that so it couldn't be the same thing.
Stopped and checked for leaks and as there was nothing obvious I started her up and rode off.
Afetr less than a mile.....splutter.......donk.......hard shoulder. This time the bike fired up then stopped. It did this 5 or 6 times and the battery gave up and so did I.
Called one of the guys i was meeting to alert him (mega apologies to those who may have waited at Little Chef) and then called BMW Assist.
Got some stroppy bag with a plum stuck somewhere unreachable who informed me that not only could she not hear me, she could not understand my accent or understand the name of the place I was at!
After using words of one syllable she promised to call back with the eta of the truck. Luckily I know the guy who runs the local pick up agent (I have a Ducati as well and it lives on his truck!!) and I called him and he came got me even before the call came from Assist!
So, I get home and get changed on the double and then drove like a madman to get to Fort William only to be passed by a couple of GS's on the way home!
I went into the Lochy and asked if they had all gone? Yes, minutes ago!
So I headed back home and met Roddy in a layby. Said hello and explained my day then on my way home.

I was really looking forward to a cold run and meeting the guys, but not this time. Next time I'll just come in the car and leave the bike in the garage!

Safest Option Wully!!

I wondered how bad it would be today on the west coast?? - the roads here still had icy areas on them at 11:30:eek: - I'd already decided to give it a miss - I've been doin a few jobs on the bike and although it's back together at the moment, it's also lookin all clean and sparkly:ymca - so I didna fancy 8 hours of salt and sh-te on it:( - but the main worry really is the lack of daylight at this time of year:rob, so I hope everybody got home SAFELY and had a good day oot:thumb - so what's first? - hot bath and a dram? - or pressure-wash the bike?

Cheers....................Grizzly:beerjug:

Lugs...............

sorry about your probs

BUT.........................

do hope it's a R12gs you have?

I to was looking forward to the run, but could not do it even in the car for that distance.
Frost never lifted from here all day and has set in deeper since around 15:30.

Nearly....

Ita an HP2. I'm beginning to think the HP stands for 'huge problems'!

The roads were lovely though. Clean'ish and frost free. I am really gutted as I was so looking forward to the run.

And the rub is that after filling it with electricity she is running like a dream tonight!! F@@@ed battery me thinks!

We came home and washed the bikies doon and fitted ma new top box (well, new to me). And now i've ordered some new thermals - silk sock and glove liners and hopefully some thicker long jons so's i can wear 2 pairs next time. I had 4 layers of thermal / fleece tops on today and was still cold - such a woose.
Hope y'all had a top day and are safely home defrosting / drying oot.:roll
