Longish article in the Sunday Times Driving supplement today 'raising' the tankslapper issue :blast

I guess it sells newspapers ;) :bow

Raised question over the Kevin Ash accident and cites 2 'experienced jornos' that have had tandslappers - and that's it. No other evidence and no issues with owners.

It's probably teh journalist union showing it's teeth. One of their own was killed whilst on the bike and of course it can't have been a freak accident or god forbid, rider error:rolleyes: I wonder if the journo who reported the tank slapper just had a moment and of course, it must have been the bike and not the fucking great rock he rode into causing the loss of control.

They will have to pin the blame on BMW and will probably keep just digging away at it.

There obviously isn't a problem otherwise it would have become apparent with all the bikes which are now riding around quite happily.

They talked about the accident and nobody saw it - the guy following that fell off trying to avoid him just saw a cloud of smoke and the aftermath. So the tankslapper theory is pure speculation.

Not so much journalistic brotherhood - more like lazy feckers regurgitating anything that looks like a story.

It's giving the morons on the KTM forum food for the feeding frenzy :comfort

This from 'Baz'

Kevin Ash Death: GS Faulty...
Read with much interest in the press namely the Sunday Times motoring supplement this morning that speculation is that the new Bavarian tractor is to be counted almost as at fault for the death of Mr.Ash.

Currently recalled in the USA and Canada and the bikes release in Italy has warranted its release to be delayed there.

Apparently it has a tendency to "suddenly lurch at some circumstances with a risk a rider would be thrown/ejected out of the saddle"...that is not very good at all.

If they knew the QA issues with a lot of the fleet of BM's then half the fuckwits riding them would retire and send there Santiago suits back to Germany.

I would rather have a badge from the Elton and David Furnish fan club gang than have that Bavarian tat badge adorned on any bike i would ride...

Plenty of ST readers (and WC riders :augie ) don't hang around motorcycle forums so it's news to them. :nenau

Just comfort yourselves in the certain knowledge that riding a 'killer' bike will enhance yourkudos in the :tesco car park

So sales figures indicate 271 * new 1200GS LC sold in the UK alone during April, as an average say of 1K miles per bike that's going to be over 1/4 million miles covered and not one report of a slapping incident! Multiply this over global sales and it must be a few million miles covered already.

One would think with the vast variety of riding styles in use, someone would be reporting an issue if it had been replicated......

I think you are forgetting that half of those 271 or even 3/4 could well be Hex 1200 Adv's as the two types are lumped together.

I would guess a few Adv,s, but not in the numbers you express, which will still leave good mileage samples covered and should expect at least some muttering of issues if this is something affecting the design itself.

As a former Suzuki TL1000s rider I relish the killer tag and its associated challenge. Definitely adds kudos... Who can tame this head-shaking surging beast??

Now available, a new excuse for those who can't afford one: 'I haven't got the balls!' Mwahahahaha!

Yawn, you're such an arrogant cnut .......

Making out that you're so superior than anyone else, not in your elitist WC clique & making out that you are so fortunate to be able to have the cash/finance to afford it, whereas we who don't own one are by definition - so poor of cash and therefore must be inferior:rolleyes:

It endears no one to your point of view, in fact it demeans it and lessens it
