Fork Recall Notification

Recall details for American Market. Not seen anything for the UK/europe

Manufacturer: BMW of North America, LLC

SUMMARY:
BMW is recalling certain model year 2013 R1200 GS motorcycles manufactured January 9, 2013, through February 8, 2013. Due to an insufficient torque of a locking bolt, the front fork tube may loosen.
CONSEQUENCE:
If the fork loosens it may hinder the rider's ability to control the motorcycle, increasing the risk of a crash.
REMEDY:
BMW will notify owners and dealers will reinforce the affected fork locking bolt connections, free of charge. Owners were notified of the safety recall by telephone on April 22 and April 23, 2013. Therefore, an owner notification letter will not be issued for this campaign. Owners may call BMW at 1-800-525-7417 or email BMW at [email protected].
NOTES:
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

That must be the hundredth time that particular recall has been mentioned on here:rob:blast:rolleyes:

We just have to wait for the inquest and investigations to be completed and then read the report.

So far all we know is that there was an accident - the rest is pure speculation.

Held in South Africa, what's the chances of the truth really being found:augie.

BiKE magazine done the full on test on recent GS feature and they couldn't induce tankslapper even if they tried.

R1200GS LC head shake / tank slapper

I don't see this referenced anywhere here so thought I would share this with you. Looks like the 2014 R1200GS LC will come with a steering damper to prevent the 'tank slapper' many are experiencing. Does this acknowledge a problem with the 2013? Did Kevin Ash experience this dreaded tank slapper that cost him his life? Will 2013 models be retro fitted? :nenau

The 2014 GS spec is old news on this forum.
What 'tank slapper' many are experiencing?????????
This post is a joke surely?
If this bike tank slapped I wouldn't be here by now to write this post!!!!!

Here we go again...
Where are "the many" ?

One of the bike mags did a big write up testing the tank slapper theory and they couldn't induce one for trying.

"Tank slapper"... Seems more like p*ss poor riding to me.

Did around 1000mls through N/Yorks Moors...Yorkshire dales....and the Lake district last week.

Making good progress on even the Gnarlyest of roads, caught plenty of potholes and rough bits of road both on bends and straights, yes the steering is lighter than the old bike (good thing in my opinion) and it will shake it's head if you catch a pothole mid bend or a large stone in the road, but NEVER NEVER did it feel out of control or give me cause for corncern for a second.

This bike is rock solid with far far greater feedback than the old model.

I've not read a newspaper in years,

And I never watch the news on the television, or listen to it on the radio,

To be honest i can find other ways to get depressed :D

I've done 6,500 miles on my new GS, on some of the worst roads in the country some of them shouldn't be classed as roads, I've hit some major potholes and at times been going a little faster than I should have ,and never ever had the slightest Tank Slapper or a feeling of instability ,

And thats how it should be,

Before that review Bike had very few BMW adverts, after the review, service as normal.
