Iceland is on the list thanks for posting looks COOL....:thumb

superb write-up and some high-incentive shots to warrant it being on my 'to-do list' also. many thanks guys...:aidan

Nice one, Iceland has been on my "to do" list for some time.
I can't quite work out from your report exactly how long you took, I see you said you only had time for one week in Iceland, but how long did the rest of the trip take?
Ta.

Thanks for that.:) Some interesting stuff in there.
Have fancied Iceland for some time. Had hoped to go this year but didn't make it. Like Rushy, not sure I fancy it 2-up on the 1150.

The whole thing took just over two weeks. Here it is day-by-day:

29 June 2008 Left Bedford to Lakes
30 June 2008 Lakes to Loch Ness
01 July 2008 Loch Ness to Scrabster
02 July 2008 Ferry departed Scrabster 0600
03 July 2008 Arrived Seydisfjoerdur, Iceland 1200 and went to Hofn
04 July 2008 Hofn to Geysir along F1
05 July 2008 Geysir and up the F35 to camp near Varmahlid
06 July 2008 Along the F1 to Myvatn where we camped
07 July 2008 Went to Askja on F88 and part way back, camped at Herdubreidarlindir
08 July 2008 Returned from Herdubreidarlindir along F88 and camped at Myvatn
09 July 2008 Went to Dettifoss and Krafla, camped at Myvatn again
10 July 2008 Myvatn to Seydisfjoerdur and departed Iceland 1600
11 July 2008 On ferry
12 July 2008 Arrived Hanstholm, Northern Denmark 1800
13 July 2008 Left Esbjerg, Southern Denmark 1845
14 July 2008 Arrived Harwich 1200

As you can see, with that much time taken just getting there and back it would have been much better to take an extra week but I didn't have enough holiday. I can't imagine we'd have got two weeks on sunshine though :)

When we left the UK the other main interior road, the F26, was still closed and the F88 and F35 had only opened a week or so beforehand so we couldn't have gone much earlier.

My Icelandic friends in Eskifjordur can't wait for the next 'expected' big eruption to go off under Vatnayokull.......!

Ooooh ... Those Vikings must be psychic!

Anyway, I just picked up on this, and can only confirm that Iceland is an awesome place to ride, stunning scenery, brilliant terrain ... I'd go back tomorrow if I could, but it's going to be October, with the family and no bike... :(

If you fancy an escorted or organised tour, or need garage services give Eythor (the Biking Vikings MD) a ring on +354 588 3220

It might be an old thread but it's still a good 'un. Brings back memories of cycling there when I was quite a lot of years younger. It's definitely somewhere SWMBO and I want to get to on the GSA. Just wish I could f*****g afford it.
