Can anybody confirm the headlamp bulbs fitted to the S10? I think both sides are the same, single element with a shutter blade creating the dip beam from both lamps. Is that correct?

I want to order an HID kit and don't have the bike or manual here. The manual I found online helpfully states Halogen 55w x 2:blast

I fitted HID bulbs to my S10 and I've ended up back with halogens as I was sick of constant bulb/ballast failures (well a few ) and the increased light o/p didn't seem that much and needed a 55watt kit to show a marked difference. Some of the bulb burn outs may have been down to the original headlamp loom being duff (it showed some signs of overheating with chalky insulation when swapped out under recall)
As I didn't want to upset the apple cart with the harness swap I put new 55w halogens in prior to the recall though I had to buy new bulb access covers as the originals were modded when fitting HIDs to route the ballast cables.
If I was doing a lot of night riding I'd probably just fit spots instead now .
Note if you have the Yam light guard fitted (the curved clear Perspex one with NFH use marked on it) then it seems to diffuse the beam/reduce effectiveness so probably a good idea to remove if riding in the dark or on the road ;)

Theres also a risk of headlamp burn but I've not heard any cases of this on the S10.

PS if you do fit HiDs Short HID bulbs seem to produce large blackout spots in the beam so full length "normal" ones are better and make sure they have metal bases as the placcy base (cheap) bulbs don't fit the holder that well and seem to have poor alignment with it.

I consulted Les Wassall on this forum and installed a pair of his 35 watt units. They are good quality and hugely increased the light output over the standard halogen lamps. A good light spread with no black holes. It is clear though that the reflector and lens quality on the Yam isn't up to that of the 1150GS I previously owned.

I went for a low number colour so that they look halogen in terms of colour instead of the blue tint which may look "cool" but are less compatible with human eyes.

With regard to the loom the 35 watt load will give it an easy time compared with the standard 55 watt items.

Whilst on the subject of headlights, my Ténéré is in for a recall tomorrow to replace the headlamp socket unit.
Bikes affected are those manufactured between October 2011 & August 2013.
Although my bike is 2010 I received a letter for recall.

Funny, I didnt get the call over here in Ireland....I did ask. I ust ask again.

Re the headlights, they're savage. I blew the rozzersoff the road last night, no lights on driving on a motorway, they didnt know what was behind them when I hgit the high beams ! :comfort
