i had a quick look at a mate's non starting superdream this morning.

no spark, no volts, well about 0.5v at the coil, no manual, no wiring diagram.

is there a componant on these old dogs that commonly fails in such a manner?

ignition amp maybe?

Is it turning over even?

Is the starting relay connected to the battery?

(The second smaller lead to positive battery terminal that often gets missed in all the excitement to fire up a newly be-batteried laid up bike.)

I've got a Haynes manual for the 250N 1978 onwards. If you need any pages I can scan them and email them (wiring diagram for example) .
Sorry I don't want to sell it but happy to perform numerous illegal copyright violations for you :D

COMMON FAULTS......

1) Corrosion/coating of fuseholder clips.

Remove fuses and get some emery cloth/wire wool on the clips and fuse ends.

2) Broken wire in loom at headstock due to a million and one turning of the handlebars. Try 'waggling' the loom while you test for voltage at various points.

thanks for help.

bike turns over & was running fine until one morning it didn't.

mate's getting a manual this week hopefully. if he fails, i'll get back to gecko.

will check out the fuse & broken wire things.

Regulator/rectifier was a notorious weak spot on the old superdreams. Shouldn't realy stop it starting though so long as battery is fully charged.

the battery only flattened when my mate tried to start it.

it has no, or intermittent spark.

The CDi units used to fail on the dreams, CX's etc if you cranked them over with the plugs disconnected, it used to blow the output stage...Sounds like yours has gone the same way, got the same symptons. I suppose after 20+ years somethings gonna go sooner or later.

Hope it turns out to be something simple :beerjug:
