It's service time for my 97 R1100GS

I found this supplier of filters with a branch local to me

http://www.filter-services.co.uk/

They supply MANN and Mahle (among other brands)

I have just ordered MANN filters today for collection tomorrow (Mahle would have taken a little longer). They quoted me £6.03 for the oil filter and £5.66 for the air filter (both ex VAT).

For a 97 R1100GS MANN Filters:

Oil MW712 (equiv MAHLE OC91)
Air C1552 (equiv MAHLE LX578)
Fuel MWK 44 (equiv KNECHT / MAHLE KL145)

You can cross reference other makes of filter, and look up vehicles on the MANN website here:

https://www.mann-hummel.com/online-catalog/EU/eng

Filter Services will look everything up for you, but I always think for small quantities, doing at least some of the work is always appreciated by the supplier.

They have branches in Chesterfield, Leeds and Leicester.

It might be worth keeping this information to hand.

Logged. Could be handy for the air filter for me.

I know I pay more from BMW but the oil filters do come with all the correct sized washers for the oil sump plug, gearbox and FD bolts. Anyone have the correct size of washers for these applications?

Motorworks sell packs of service washers (or indeed individuals) which include all the drain plugs etc. However whether this would still be cost effective against the BMW price for filter + washers, I don't know...

Buy an engine oil filter from james sherlock and all the engine, gearbox and final drive washers are in a bag in with the filter. ;)

For a R1100GS, BMW lists the oil drain as 16mm, transmission fill as 18mm, and the others(both final drive plugs and tranny drain) as 14mm (all I/D).

Most fastener places sell crush washers, BMW specify aluminium ones, but the copper ones are OK for most applications. You can get packs of them from ebay too.

From parts fiche

Sump A16x20
Gearbox fill A18x22
Gearbox drain A14x18
Diff fill A14x18
Diff drain A14x18

A = aluminium

Example 50 for just under £3
