surging on constant throttle

Have you got your Enduro Pro plug in? Thought if you have it remembers your settings:nenau

That's right! It stops the default setting between turning it on and off ...:thumb2

I`ve now done 4000miles on mine and ride with throttle in dynamic most of the time with suspension in road mode. I find that that the shorter movement suits me fine. If you just use it every now and then you`ll never get use to it. Leave it in Dynamic for 2 weeks and you`ll wonder what the problem was.
My only little niggle is that if you leave it in dynamic the natural default if switching off is Hard suspension which I find a bit stiff for bumpy Welsh type roads. You have to reset to road mode on start up or on the fly.
Soft setting does not have enough rebound control but then the bike is over sprung for one up riding.
Regardless of what people say this is a good bike.
My pennies worth.........

you need to fit the enduro pro plug then it holds the ESA/mode settings set before you switch off.

How, do you set the throttle in Dyanmic mode yet the suspension in Road mode???

Hi, Set the mode button to Dynamic and ESA to Normal. For me it gives the response but with slight plushness which I like.
Cheers

Ok, dynamic will, as I'm sure you know, not only set the throttle (traction etc etc) but also the damping, the ESA will set the preload.

Have you tried Enduro mode?

I found dynamic great for a fast ride but Enduro is much better for a smooth quick ride!!

I have modes on the Harley....Stop, very slow, slow, slightly quicker then slow and weave, slow down :D

All powered through twisty cables, jets, floats and atomised fuel...

My understanding is that ESA adjusts the Damping and/or the Pre load. This may be what you meant , but if not take this as a correction.

You can also save the mode by cutting the engine via the stop button , however the ignition needs to be left on. This is only a solution for short stops.

Ok, I've just re-read the manual !!

So, the damping is set by the Normal, Soft and Hard settings and preload is helmets and luggage ....

However on pg 92 of the manual I'm looking at it does say the mode over writes the damping settings so default for Dynamic is Hard and for Road it's Normal.

I would have also assumed that with 'Dynamic' ESA the damping is also constantly being adjusted by the ECU on the info from the ride height sensors but the preload remains static.

I'm not sure about your second comment of storing settings, I'll try that as I was under the impression that the settings were stored after x seconds. I know the "plug" allows the settings for ASC and ABS to be saved not sure if this saves any other settings, to be honest I've not plugged mine in yet.

Yes I believe this is correct , mode will change the suspension settings but then you can change back via the ESA button.

The pro plug I believe saves the settings selected in the pro mode , but I'm not sure if it saves the settings in other modes, I haven't tried mine as yet but will do so some time.

Hi all

I have my plug fitted for only one reason ... that it saves the ESA changes you make to each mode when the ignition is turned off. So I can confirm this is the case.:thumb

Here is my story

I bought my 2013 LC in april of 13...I should mention its a USA/California bike, we get extra attention on air quality issues (CARB)..lol
Great bike, i have had 7 bmws before with 2 of them beings a 1150 and a Hex-head 1200.

Upon test riding during the purchase i didn't really notice the "Rolling surge" that was present during 2500-4000 rpm. because i whacking the throttle for the most part. I mention it at my 600 mile service and the reset fly by wire throttle.
1. my problems were stationary throttle between 2-4k having a gentle wave rolling through my constant throttle intake, going up and down
2. could be felt on the de-cell as well.
3. hard acceleration from low rpm seemed to lag between that rev range.then hit hard after 4k

No improvement. Throttle by wire was reset again, the next time they changed out the throttle bodies, I guess a regional rep heard that this cured the problem in other bikes since they have there own mini computer in them.

Well with 4 k on the clock the problem still was there.
Dealer talked to Germany and the made a date to do a computer hook up, No real answers, then they told the dealer to do about 84 tests on the bike, all electrical was tested doing leak down test and individual unit testing as well valves and gaskets. No luck.

Basic info on the cure would be like a basic fuel enricher to help the bike to not to be running to lean. Since BMW runs a closed loop computer there is no tampering on it. And a enricher basically fools the computer on the air intake.
Adding any thing like this voids BMW's warranty ....so now BMW exchanging my bike with a new 2014 which should be here in a couple of weeks.
Iam glad i went through the whole process as time consuming as it was.
Like i said the is wonderful and is a great overall upgrade from past awesome GS's.
My favorite things on the new GS is on the dampening which i use constantly because it works making small adjustments you normally would never do.
The cruise control is so handy and easy i use it on ever ride at some level.
Traction control is great peace of mind.

Will do a comparison of the two when i get the new bike.

Interesting post, I noticed this on my test bike ride. Does not happen on my bike. As you say it is about closed loop and fuel mixture. I have had serveral bikes that behaved this way, R1100s, Buell XB12X , 1200 Ducati Multi Strada. I also noted this was worse in hot weather . I added fuel optimisers to fix, but this should not be a requirement on modern day bikes with the Price tags these machines have. Usually better fixes involve a remap of the F.I ecu but date I am unsure who does this, but should my bike develop this I'll be looking. Good result getting a new bike though.

Hell of a process to have to go through when a simple remap by BMW themselves would likely fix the problem first go

Good point Bails about the heat/weather..Majority of the temp here in Sac has been in the 80's degrees through to a 100.

Now we have had some 70's still a problem.
I heard through the grapevine its a under 10% problem

Mine doesn't do it, not the slightest hint, maybe it's because mine is the standard model without all those funny modes. :D
