Bought some Wild tyres last weekend with a view trying out some green lanes in surrey. Also picked up some MachineArt cylinder head guards for a bit of extra protection. I was a bit nervous, as only one of my legs really works so i can only put one leg out to stop and cant stand up on the pegs. That aside, i met up with a couple of mates on KTM 450EXC's and we head off to try out some lanes for the (my) first time.

What an AWESOME time i had, the bike was incredible and ate up all the bumps and handled extremely well in the mud. It gave me confidence enough to go down some pretty rough tracks although the wet chalk incline absolutely nailed me, fell off a couple of times, had to walk it down and then got totally stuck in mud as the front end sank haha!! was great though and thank god i had a couple of mates to help pull the bastard out. I did bring a tow rope just incase, but didnt need it in the end!

Anyway, I use this bike for commuting into the city daily, weekend trips and I'm looking forward to more off road. What a versatile machine!! Also, the lanes were very good, in great condition and quite quiet. We only came across two other riders.

good read and very tempting but also a bit daunting.
so far, my GSA has only seen tarmac.

this might be a stupid question: but did you put the tyres on yourself and road on them to the lanes?

I got the tyres fitted by GTC in Chilworth a couple if weekends ago, been using them full time since then.

Looks like a great day out. Whereabouts were the lanes? I'm based in Oxted these days and keen to ride some local trails with local riders - but i think i'll stick to my WR250 and leave the GSA at home!

Well done for getting stuck in where many fear to tread. A GSA is a big old beast for UK green lanes.

These were mostly just west of Dorking

Nice report.:thumb

What are the tyres like on the road, when making progress?:augie

guessing but Honeysuckle bottom,Abinger Hammer/Ranmore,Leith hill, and Newlands Corner

basically looks like your mates on proper bikes spent a lot of time digging out yer bike:nenau

Seriously though, looks like a good day out :thumb

It's the first set of blocky tyres I've owned. Hated them to begin with, but now i'm more used to them, they have a really good amount of grip in the dry. In the wet, TC will come on in 4th.....

Well done mate.

If you fancy it come up to Herts some time and we can show you some of our lanes and over into Essex.

haha! Yeah they were very helpful, it was just the one gnarly lane that completely screwed me up :D

Wet Chalk?!!?!

I've ridden the lanes around there (on a dirt bike) and still have the horrors over trying to get up a wet chalk incline so kudos to you :)

I have similar issues to you re having to sit and make sure I put the correct leg down, it's not always ideal but like everything you work ways around it.
