So I decided to sort the suspension on my GS as it's been a bit bouncey lately , especially when you accelerate hard.
I contacted Luke ( Denz0) and asked him to do a refurb on the dampers and to change the springs to suit my 95kg weight. The dampers didn't seem to be leaking but at 52000 miles way past thier best.

Bike stripped and shox sent away. What a sod that was. The rear damper didn't want to come out and a lot of the bolts where tight as fuck, probably all the lock tight they use.

I noticed the front ball joint rubber had split, not sure if it had split with me upping the suspension to max to get the front damper out or it was just split and I hadn't noticed.
Anyway, the ball joint was still nice and tight so I ordered a new rubber gaiter from motor works.

Want too bad a job but getting that bottom spring clip on was a twat. Ended up using a piece of shim steel and made a cone and covered the gaiter and them slid the clip down. It was a fuck on but it worked.

Got the bush out of the rear swing arm using a slide hammer and a heat gun. This was also tight as fuck.
Needs to be lubed before re fitting.

Got the back shock fitted yesterday. Top bolt torqued to 50nm.

Bottom bolt to 58nm. Make sure the bush is lubed .

Enjoying this thread, are you going to do a calibration with GS-911 at the end Andy, and looking forward to get your feedback on the different feeling, as mine are going to Lukes in the winter for the same treatment.

Front shock is a pain to get back in. You need to jack the front of the bike right up to get it in.
Once in place nip both bolts then torque top to 34nm then the lower to the same.

Then you need to fasten the anti twist bracket. When I removed mine it came out but didn't unclip properly so when I tried to get it back in I couldn't.

This is what it's supposed to look like when unclipped. No wonder I couldn't get it back in.

Because I had removed it from the damper it was a pain to get back on. I recommend if you get the damper off and the clip hasn't unclipped it self at the top you need to do that before re fitting it all to the bike. As I had removed mine in an effort to figure out why it wasn't going back in I did manage to re attach it with the damper in place. Only just though !

Thanks , I thought I'd put some info and pictures up to help anyone out doing the same thing. The haynes manual is crap really, but better than nothing. It doesn't really explain or show very clear about the anti twist bracket etc and the photos are in black and white.

Sorry about the way this has been posted but I did it from my phone , that's why there's loads of posts and not a couple of long posts with the photos and text in the right order if that makes sense

I don't think I need to calibrate as I had set the suspension to comf and 1 helmet but I will try the settings and see how it goes. I do have a gs911.

Any help is better than no help, even though mine is a wethead. :thumb2:clap
