I have been looking for crash bars and didn't like the 'tie bar' below the engine guard which was part of the SW design.

Looking on the Adventure Rider site, I see that SW Motech have redesigned their bars. I have not read anything about that on this site, can anyone confirm that the new design is available in the UK?

Anyone tried them?

I was gonna attach the link with photos for info but I am not sure how to, so here is the photo instead!

I have previously used BMW crash bars and wasn't impressed as you need to remove the bars to access and remove the tappet covers. The Hepco and Becker seem to be the answer. You are able to adjust the tappets without taking off the bars and you don't need shields over the covers as the bars protect the covers too. Hope that helps. Roger

I have some Motech Bars due for delivery today, I should be able to let you know later if I get chance to fit them after work. Photo's to follow.

A problem I had with my SW Motech crashbars was the bottom tie bar was hitting the deck during 'spirited' riding. ;) This resulted in the bolt heads being knackered and impossible to remove with resorting to butchery.

Now using Touratech 'bars, and a mighty fine job they are too. You still have to remove them to get the valves done, but that takes all of a couple of minutes and is no real hardship.

I guess SW Motech have listened to customer feedback and re-designed theirs accordingly. :thumb2

Little bit puzzled here Davy. By spirited riding do you mean "off road" as looking at my own bars I can,t see how the bottom tie bar would touch down before the loop which goes round the Heads, if at all.

there is a new design but I've only seen it for 08 and on bikes - not sure if it'll fit earlier bikes

I think Davy means the bar that goes under the bashplate. This definitely takes a battering off-road!!

I have just put a set of motec bars on a 2006 1200GS, and they are a new design.

They do not need to be removed for general servicing [I have read on other sites?]

Very well made and look good

2 hrs from start to finish for a total amateur, am very pleased, atad confusing at time with the instructions and trying to line everything up but got there in the end. :thumb2

No prizes for spotting that the Motech stickers are upside down, maybe for a reason !

Sorry, should have said on the left side. That and the brake pedal were getting chamfered nicely. Oh, and on the road, not off road.

Ah! :thumb2 Maybe that why Nippy Norman's site states they can't be used with Remus pipes. Looking at the new design I recon they may foul.

I was scratching my head as to why my SW's fit with a Remus system, now I realise I have the old (better) design. :D

I had a set of SW Motech lower bars (old design). I fitted them, then removed them 2 days later as I thought they looked awful (particularly the bottom fixing).
I was also concerned about the change in the vibration characteristics of the bike. I know 'they all do that sir' but the engine bars increased/changed the vibes in different rpm areas, and this wasn't to my liking.

Saturday, I helped Dave56 to fit a set of the redesigned SW bars and the new design looks really good. I will wait for his report on any vibration/frequency issues and then may consider buying some of the new ones.

Wasn't there something about aftermarket bars and BMW warranty?:nenau

Big thanks Sherpatensing, well pleased with the look of the engine bars. :thumb

Just as a footnote, why pay £146.50 (incl. postage) from Nippy Normans :nenau when you can get them from Hein Gericke for £107.......!!! Good buy at that price I think.
