Well I have just fitted my SW Motech bars. I bought mine at BMW Bike Bits, but the cheapest place I have seen them is at;

They get a good review by comparison to the competition in this magazine although it is in German;

Instructions are easy to follow, and cleverly designed spacers keep it really neat. If I can fit them anyone can as I am mechanically incompetent. I did however demonstrate this by damaging the head of two hex bolts which secure the lower (metal) connecting strap into the belly pan guard thing. This is worrying as this will have to come off to change the oil filter. I have ordered replacement bolts, but will have to figure how to get the old ones out before service time. These were £80 cheaper than the BMW bars, so I don't want to waste the money I saved paying my BMW garage to sort this out! They look the part, and certainly seem to protect the cylinder heads and engine well.

Motech supply them complete with chocolate screws, so don't worry about it. To remove the old ones, use a slightly oversize Torx bit and a wee small hammer to persuade it in :thumb

I got mine from HG and they were less than £90 so they must have made a mistake!!!:D
I didn't manage to damage the bolts (and I've done an oil change since) you heavy handed loon.

They look good though don't they :thumb

Check the clearance between the bars and the oil feed line on the left-hand side. Mine rubbed against the feeder, and I needed to add a washer to create a gap.

...saw your original post re this, and checked mine.......sure enough, touching.......added a washer.....sorted....

Cheers chasr.......:thumb :)

Adventure.

has any one fitted these bars to an 1150 adventure?, if so, do they stop the tank hitting the deck when it falls.

Thanks for the suggestion wizard. While I clearly am heavy handed I have just received the replacement bolts I ordered from;

and the difference in quality is obvious. I wish I had used these from the start instead of the ones from Motech. I would recommend this supplier.
