I have a Sept 2008 GS.
I fitted SW Motech Engine Bars shortly after getting my bike. Yes very pleased, however I have just read
"SW Motech Engine Bars - A Warning" by Nick on gsclubuk.org website
His bolts seized and the bars had to be cut off. Read the article. Expensive!
I checked my bolts and one had started to corrode quite badly where it passed though the bars - it has only been in place for 7 months.
I am glad that I checked the bolts and applied more copperslip in those areas before a problem could occur. Maybe others might like to do the same check.

have you got any photos of them fitted. Apologies for a crude question but what did u pay for them and where from?

The fittings on mine are now well scabby and will need total replavement soon. Bars are fine except for small patch where they touched down (and did their job).

Thank for the warning - I bought my bike in Oct 2008 - it is a Sept 2007 and had only done 2000 miles. Now just over 7000 miles.
This morning I checked all the bolts. Notice trolley jack under engine as the two lower bolts hold the engine to subframe to crash bars - only apply small load to jack.
The ones higher up are fine but the two lower ones which attach engine to subframe to Crash bars were starting to corrode and whoever fitted them there was NO grease at all. They are zinc plated bolts. I know there is an issue with fitting stainless steel in alloy but if greased well they are probably ok. I'll keep watching these and if corrosion continusemay fit Stainless.

FWIW, you don't need to support the engine with a trolley jack when you remove the rear bolts.
I've had mine in & out quite a few times & nothing moves.

To prevent corrosion use a product called Duralac. It is designed expressly for the purpose of preventing galvanic corrosion between dissimilar metals on threaded assemblies. I use it on all fittings on my yacht, and is usually found in chandlers.

The best source, however, is from Lotus Elise parts suppliers - it costs about half the price of chandler for 5 times the amount.

I use it on my GSA for any fixings that I replace, no corrosion on those threads at all.
