SW Motech SysBag WP

They look awesome, with their awesome quick release racks. I might look at getting some for the Himy (to use the latest bikermate expression). Thanks for sharing dude, as they say.

What though is not very clear is why:

A. The two bags on the quick release racks differ in size so much. 15 litres left (near side) 10 litres right (off side). I can only assume it is something to do with clearing the exhaust on the off side?

B. Why the lashing strap bag versions, which I assume are used with the generic Royal Enfield frame, differ greatly in size from the quick release bags. These bags seem to be 27 and 40 litres respectively, a huge difference over the other bags.

I must be reading Motech’s website wrong?

I might have to bimble along to the Great Portland Street branch of Infinity to find out:

I shall use the tube and / or bus if I do.

This is maybe a better structured review, than that in the opening post.

I am going to have a look at some as an alternative to my Himalayan’s Spam tins.

PS I quite like the Kriega steel core straps. I have a homemade length of plastic coated steel cable with eyelets on either end, which I can secure with a padlock. The cable and eyelets came from a yacht chandler’s; I think it’s the stuff they use to stop nautical types falling off the boat when they are pissed. I use it to secure my jacket and helmet if I go wander about on a jaunt. The steel core strap is probably neater.

Bugger.

SW-Motech’s ‘Find your nearest dealer’ function is crap. Infinity do not stock it, they only order it in. As I wanted to look at a bag, that was a wasted journey to London W1.

On a brighter note, the Kreiga steel core straps I ordered, turned up in short order.

I use the SW Motech Systbags regularly - for me the ideal set up and have now had them on 2 different bikes (Husky 900 Norden & Africa Twin Adventure Sport) they fit easy and I use some same key coded Kriega Steelcore straps as a security measure when touring. They are light - waterproof and easy on / off. the pannier rails are quick release too so perfect for stripping the bike back to basic for std rides. We tour 2 up most of the time and there is plenty of room for couple of weeks gear and still keep to reasonable weight. great feature for us is we use packing cubes so when at a hotel for a few days we pull the gear out in the room and then put the bags back on the bike and rouche them down with the straps so they are narrow and then when we get somewhere where we want to park up and walk around we put the bike gear in the panniers with security trap round them and its as safe as a ali pannier (which I could open the ali topbox on the Husky with a flat screwdriver without the key).
For us this is a good compromise between weight and capacity and functionality.
I also cut the old pannier racks up for the Husky when I moved to the twin and made some wall hangers for the cases for the garage and they stack one above the other and have all my touring gear and spare tankbags etc in them to keep the clutter down in the garage.
SW Motech are good to deal with (some bolts on the husky were not long enough so i replaced them with some of my own - I sent an email to them and they supplied me with new bolts and updated their parts list to include the correct ones for any future orders.
I ordered using the MANCAVEMOTO code form Tony's YouTube channel and got a 10% discount on both orders (but had to use different email numbers to get the discount second time round).
