Has anyone combined the SW Motech powered 12V tank ring with power from the BMW GPS power outlet near the headstock. Seems to be perfect combination...12V power in your tankbag which switches off with the CANBUS?

That was my thinking. Wonder what the CANBUS permitted rating is off that feed?

Just seems really neat to get it all wired up in that fashion. Planning on running mobile phone + PDA (with Tomtom) in a suitable Bags Connection tankbag. Otherwise it's wiring straight to the battery which seems a bit messy.

I don't know for certain, but I'll guess that the headstock socket is in the same power circuit as the accessory socket by your left knee. So plug all those bits in and see if it trips the "fuse" for the socket. Then check that the cables on the headstock are ok for 5 amps, and if they are, Robert is the name of your mother / fathers brother :) or Kate from Blackadder IIRC.

Genius. Already run that combo of the accessory socket. Probably all go Pete Wrong when I come to buy one of those heated jacket things (as modeled by pretty ladies on websites) and the whole world of CANBUS goes phuttt!

I use a centech fuse unit for the heated jacket as some draw enough power to shut down the accessory socket. Or just bolt the power lead onto the battery and then all you need to remember to do is to disconnect the jacket when the motor isn't running.

What does the relay do on the motech power lead from the battery? Does this cut power to the motech sockets when an accessory is unplugged?

Just had a thought - why not buy the standard ring and run a 12v socket from the canbus connection and into the bag.

A lead from the accessory socket to the bag would mean several things to disconnect after the ride. Trying to get it all to disconnect when you dismount the bag.

The 'relay' is infact a small ciruitboard with a fuse holder and fuse!!!...on mine anyhow!!!

Also the bag ring and tank ring parts are not close fitting leading to poor connection after some use...... my experience!

Bit of a blow that! If it isn't going to last then it's a pretty hefty investment in not a lot. Perhaps I will go the Zumo/Tomtom route instead - probably about the same in overall cost! Anyone know where to get one cheap?

Update! Wow they're THAT much? Maybe I'll stick with my PDA and one of those MediaBag things from Wunderlich.

Try GPS Warehouse, cheaper than anywhere when I got my Zumo.

Lynchy :D
