sw moto ally chain guard problem

I bought a sw moto chain guard for my dakar, mainly cos i didn't like the look of the tt one and it was a fair bit cheaper Its been on the bike for just over a year and about 8000 miles.

Got home today and noticed the guard sitting at a weird angle, this is what if found

If you have this guard check it !! I've cut down the stock guard and put it back on. No more ally chain guards for me, Dread to think what could have happend if it'd got into the chain somehow.

Looks like its down to poor design, by not radiusing the corners (which takes all of two minutes in any cad program ) they have introduced a weak point where a crack can form. Shame on me for not noticing the crack before now

Same thing with mine ...

1500 miles ... didn't sheer off at top RH and bottom LH like yours but cracked at the top RH corner of the slot nearest the swingarm pivot. Noticed it as the guard had much more movement than normal when I lubed the chain ..... plastic crap collector refitted.

My RoMaTech one, which was also half the price of the TT one, is fine. The brake caliper cover that came with it is smart too.
