A year ago I "upgrade" to a new 2017 Euro-4 1200 GS-ADV which I really never was happy with.A good bike for sure but really not much different to my former 2012 ADV.For a lot of money all I basically got was a 3 year warranty and peace of mind that a costly repair due to a leaky r.m.s. was a thing of the past...;)
Reason was that the power especially in the mid-range felt flat to me.Smooth for sure but really not as strong as the Euro-3 LC units.I started regretting not having kept my old one or at least buying a Euro-3 2014-16 ADV despite not being triple black and having the older/noisier to shift transmission.Until now that is...My dealer uploaded a new software (the original version was from 1-17-2017) and now the bike runs at least as good if not better than the Euro-3 units...:thumb2 Really happy with it ! No need to "hilltop" it...;) Unbelieveable what 20 minutes hooked up to a computer can do.
Which begs the question why they did not come this mapping in first place ? I don't know since when this mapping came stock with the bike but if yours felt fluffy like mine it is definitely worth checking into.
Of course that does not mean that I would not buy a 150hp GS...:D

What prompted your dealer to update the software and did they charge for it?

I was complaining about a hole in the midrange and asked if there was some upgrade available so they filled it without charging me the 20 minutes or so connecting my bike and downloading the new engine map.Which was nice of them because I would have gladly paid for it because I'm happy now...:thumb2
Like I said I don't know from which build date this map was already uploaded on the DME right from the factory ?
But it doesn't hurt to ask if you experience the same symptoms my bike had.Big difference;
3rd and 4th gear roll-ons from 4000 to 8000rpm feel much more urgent now.Before it felt like the engine did not get enough fuel...
I'm happy now !

Probably the first flashing of the software was a bit buggy and they just uploaded again, that normally sorts it out.

Looking at the computer at the dealership it was definitely a new map they uploaded.Like I said the original was from 1-17-2017.
But anyways the engine runs great now;at least as strong if not stronger than a few testrides I did on light crank 2014 or later 2015,2016 models !
I remember back a few years ago they came out with a software "upgrade" for the 2013-2014 who felt too digital/too aggressive for some owners where they made adjustments and made them feel more like the heavier crank 2015 regular GS.Since you can't go back a friend of mine sold his 2014 GS because he missed the urgency the original map had given him...

They always do something to the software, better fuel management etc, thats how they sell new bikes, most of the new stuff is all software related, that they sell to us. :beerjug:
