quite a lot of fine grey paste on my airhead trans drain plug. should i be concerned?

no big shiny flakes, which i guess is a good thing, but the gearbox is out at the moment for other reasons, and i'm wondering if i should open it up for a check?

All of my plugs come out like that.

I then put it milk and serve to my wife and she thinks I've bought her some magic shimmery drink!

Second sentence was made up. I don't do that.

it just seemed like a large amount to me.

i wish i'd taken a photo of it now, but i just wiped it off :blast

You are still talking about your drain plug? :eek
I wouldn't worry - all my Boxers did that. But i'd keep an eye on it - if it changes / gets worse / is very high magnetic content - THEN i'd worry.

Whiles it's out of the frame stick half a litre of paraffin in it give it a bloody good agitation rotate shafts etc etc and drain it for half an hour or so (Strain it through a pair of stocking or fine muslin is you want to check for bits??

Stick some fresh gear oil couple of hundred cc not the full 800 or PAS Fluid back in and rotate shafts and agitate it and drain again <- at least this time you have put some lubrication back in

Let it drain for a good while and then add the proper gear oil and do the shft rotation thing to get the gear oil up in there again

( You do know about the GL5 spec thing don't you ??)

Wipe it off and keep it. Soon you'll have enough to build a whole new airhead.

It's just the residual sawdust that the last owner stuffed in there immediately before selling it ! :D

Quite normal actually :thumb2

never trust a scouser :D

i never got to the bottom of the "clunk" i wrote about here so i should probably check the shock absorber spring as steptoe suggested anyway while the box is out.

and yes, it's only been fed on a strict diet of GL5 :)
