Gear Box Drain Plug

Hi

I was going to change the gear box oil on my 1100 today but the drain plug was solid and would not move, to cut to the chase I now have a problem because the allen head has burred and I have no grip to remove the bolt
Thinking about it the cold weather would not have helped, could try heat on the bolt but that will be no good unless I can gain some grip to turn it. The bolt is the original allen head type that has been updated to a conventional bolt by BMW because of this potential. I have the updated bolt but how do I remove the old one !!! Any idea's will be gratefully received.

I am no expert or engineer so use this as a last resort. Hammer a torx key or ratchet fitting into the rounded allen hole. heat then turn. A smaller allen key in the hole and fill the gap with another small allen key or glue?

Awkward access to these bolts doesn't help, deeply recessed.
Maybe trying to tighten slightly then undo may help, thats if there's any grip left?

Mine was like this once.
Use an impact driver fitted with a socket set extension bar and, as suggested above, use a larger torx bit. Give the torx bit several good straight whacks first to give it a good grip before you attach the impact driver. That should do it.

Key point is: dip your hex allen key into coarse-grained grinding compound, this improves grip enormously. All other tips like impact drivers, large hammers etc don't address this, but only improve damage.
