Sweet XChallenge Adv bike

That fairing on the 450:drool:drool! Looks much better than the Touratech one one the XC.

Not sure about it being the only BMW in the 2009 Dakar, thought Si Pavey was entered on an XC??

Which one is the 450? I thought all these pics were of 650's :nenau

Thanks Val - must've somehow scrolled past that post :blast

Looks sweet - but for most of us mere mortals who are not entering the toughest rally in the world, the XC Adv seems like better proposition :thumb2

What range did you get when you were in Marocco?

I've no idea David :(
We had them fitted to allow for long runs away from civilisation but, due to a problem one of the bikes had with it's rear shock, we didn't venture that far or that long
But, by my reckoning, 25l = 5.5 gallans @ 70 mpg = 385miles / 620 km (or thereabouts)

With regard to the seat the XCountry one fits AFAIK & it's much comfier.

Luggage - be careful ! The more space you have the more you're gonna take
I had a basic Oxford tailpack for almost everything with a wee handlebar bag for phone, PMR, snacks, etc & a Camelbak for 3 weeks in Morocco (the cargo net secured my jacket, spare tube & laptop :augie)
If you take 'technical' type clothing & rinse it every evening it'll be fresh & dry in the morning. I know you're going to be riding down through some pretty cold stuff before you get to Africa but if you take layers (& maybe a heated jacket) you shouldn't need much more carrying capacity :

And, as Val H says, sticking panniers on the ar$e would require some 'remedial work' on the rear subframe.

If I was doing your (proposed) trip I'd definitely take the XC :thumb2

What a great looking bike :thumb2

Have you got a close up photo showing how the rally fairing fits to the bike frame :thumb2 Does it bolt on or need welding?

Looking to do something like that to my 950SE:thumb2 Aqualine do the large tank and I reckon it would be possible to get that fairing to fit ...

It's a bolt on kit, but i had to do some minor modifications on the go.
But no big deal realy...

I had a lot of step by step pictures, but their long gone with my other computer.
AND they were deleted on advrider, because i used the old uploadsystem, and their server finaly got full :blast

Iv ordered the big tank and rally fairing from TT trying to find hard luggage.
Getting the bike ready for a trip to Iceland July 09

I was up at the bike show on Monday and asked the question; Are the sub frames on the X country and the X challenge the same.
The answer was; Yes they are.

So for those that haven't already sussed it, the seats are probably interchangeable, with the exception of the dummy tank fittings.

BTW The lowered version of the X country is bloody brilliant :thumb2 BW have knocked a good four inches off the seat hight. If they'd produced them like that in the first place they might actually have sold some :nenau

I also learned the X series is being discontinued in 2010 All of them. The end of the road for the 650 single :(

Sorry guys..... I am generally always logged in so may have missed that.

You can have the main pages in English look for the flags

I think it's worth a login.... Its a back rack for the challenge with side pieces to avoid burnt bags and a spare can carrier. Quite a nice design and well worth a look if only to give you yet more ideas.

Good luck

I have had a look around but cannot see anything obvious - any chance you could tell us a little more? Is the rack something that is being sold, or just something someone developed for themselves? Could you copy a picture perhaps?

Thanks in advance

Sorry David.... I believe if you login and then apply the Http address I gave you above, this should take you right to the article. As I said it is in Spanish so may not be too clear.. however here are the pictures shown.
