I think I’m going bonkers! So while Mickyboy has my FD for refurb I decided to renew the swing arm bearings - both were a bit notchy. The right hand pivot was well seized up and took some persuasion to come out but other than that, no dramas. Fast forward to refitting the swing arm. All going well getting the drive shaft back on (splines now lubricated with moly 60) and the front gator. Left and right pivots back in ok as well.

However, there is quite a lot of lateral movement on the swing arm - a good couple of mm’s sideways, leaving gaps between the frame and swing arm. I don’t remember seeing or feeling this gap when I took it off but I may have missed it as the pivots were seized. i know the swing arm will stabilise when I reattach the suspension and torque arm but it just doesn’t seem right to me. I’m now wondering if I should have left the bearings a bit proud so the dust cap rests against the swing arm but again that doesn’t sound right to me either. The reprom doesn’t say anything particular of note just to drift the bearing in until flush. I assumed this meant all the way in until the race fits in against the machined recess in the swing arm.

Can anyone confirm I’m not going bonkers and there is supposed to be a small gap between the frame and swing arm? Thanks.

I've not removed the swinging arm on a hexhead but that definitely does not sound correct - lateral movement of the arm is going
to mess with the handling & steering of the bike.
