i have read on here quite a few times that ebay UK have cancelled listings of swiss vignettes saying its illegal to buy them on the internet etc....

well as normal they are talking shite....

copied from another forum:

Dear Sir/Madam

It is not illegal to sell vignettes on the internet (auction, discussion boards). It is even not illegal to sell used vignettes on the internet (for collectors or not for reuse). It is really no problem if it is really a unused vignette to any person. But, there is a high risk that you get an already used vignette. If you use a already used vignette on your car (which you bought in the internet), you’ll be punished with a fee up to 500 Swiss Francs. If you buy a vignette in the internet, the risk is only up to you (and not up to the seller). We always recommend to buy motorway vignettes at our official selling partners in your country (see overview under the attached link). Alternatively, it can also be purchased directly at the border. At our selling points, you can be sure that you will get new vignette.

so if its still stuck to the backing you have no problems, if its a cling film job then dont bother but as most bike ones go into a tank bag or wallet there is no issue.

BTW ricardo.ch which is the swiss version of ebay (and also has a connection to ebay) has loads for sale

I believe you are meant to stick it to the bike and can still be fined if carrying it.

I always used a small zip bag, put the vignette in it and then stuck that to the screen, from all but a foot or two away it looks stuck to the screen, and I can remove it easily for "security" - my excuse if stopped - plus ignorance of course.

I guess balancing up a £100+ fine Vs the £20 you get when selling it on is a personal choice, but buying a used one not taken off the backing looks a fairly safe bet and saves you a tenner.....

Just do you then take the risk of not applying it properly in an attempt to reclaim your twenty quid.

3 years ago E-Bay removed from sale my mates Vignette, but I sold mine OK, I think I sold my last one on this very sight.

Will probably do the same this year as I will only be on Swiss Motorways for about 2 hours if the weather is half decent and 5-6 hours at most if we have some truly awful days.

Pet hate re the Swiss Vignette that you get hammered for a full year , at least the Austrian charge you for 10 days/2 months etc

How about setting up a thread in the for sale section and anyone who has a swiss vignette to get rid of gives it away as a gift to fellow members who in turn give a small donation to either charity or a gift donation towards running the site.

Nice generous thought.

I would go along with that 100%

After all, when I have done a trip in EU, which has taken me through Switzerland, I would kind of feel happy to give it to a forum member, knowing that I eased his burden a little bit.

Gra.

Is that right. Good news if it is.

On the other hand I might have to forsake my sense of moral outrage and actually buy one.

i seem to recall swiss rob posting about it. yearly going charge up considerably, but a short term vignette being introduced.

probably still be CH40 for us then

edit: LINK and LINK - looks like i was right about the cost though :blast

Vignette available if wanted

Hello I have a Swiss Vignette that I purchased last week on my trip to Switzerland. If you are looking to purchase at a discount please let me know?

Thanks

if you are in switzerland on your hols.....why are you on a motorway ???

Just bought one for my trip in a few weeks.

I am going to the Dolomites and then Austria, my intention is not to spend days getting there / back. I will use a few limited sections of Motorway to avoid driving through cities, or when I need to clock off some miles quickly to get to the "best" bits.

Not all non-motorway Swiss roads are awesome biking roads, so sometimes it is worht £30 to not have to get to the great ones quickly, or to buy you an extra day or two in your final destination.

An extra day on the Grossglockner Vs a day riding thorugh Basel and on relatively dull and busy non motorway roads is a no brainer for me, and worth all 3000 pennies.

I wasin Italy for work and took a drive into Switzerland which I had to buy the 2013 Vignette Sticker. Paid $40 Euro and seeing if anyone wanted to purchase since I won't be going back anytime soon.

Apologies as this is my first post, I have been lurking a while, but as circumstance would have it I have a vignette for sale, so that's a good enough excuse to register! £20 posted (UK) if anyone is interested!

Just bought it online last week, (cost me over 40 Euro posted) stuck it on carefully (lightly) as I did not wish to have to scrape off adhesive from the windscreen on my return, and the very next day boss advises that my 10 day holiday would have to be postponed till mid October! So plans changed, won't be going anywhere near Switzerland, took it off to try and cut my losses. Came off very easily, absolutely undamaged, now on backing, any issues will accept returns!
