Swiss Vignette

I ordered my Vignette for driving through Switzerland in June/July. It took two day's to arrive. A pamphlet giving details of tolls on tunnels and the "2X2" sticker that must be adhered to the screen for it to be valid.

I know, you dont need it, if you stay off the Motorways, but, id rather have it just in case. Oh and it's around a 100 SE fine and the Vignetty cost if you do get caught

Valid one year, that is calendar year, not 12 months from when you bought it

If you stick it to the screen using waterproof tape you can always sell it on e bay when you get back to the UK

It doesn't have to be on the screen , it can be fixed to anywhere on the bike. On the back of the numberplate or under the seat is the choice of the locals.

Actually , if you by it on Jan the 1st it is valid for 13 months. You get until the 1st of Feb to get the new one ....

I'm off later in the year and I've managed to get on a Swiss motorway in error before now so it's well worth getting it in advance

It does not matter when you bought it, you always get January of the following year additionally (to give the locals a bit more time to get their new one).

If you use any tape tricks (they can be easily spotted) you will certainly get fined if you happen to get into a controll. Quite a few people learned that the hard way. I would rather go without the Vignette than risk that.

The best tape trick is to use cling film over the surface of the vignette to prevent it sticking to the windscreen.

The important part is in bold, apart from the fine and the price for another Vignette you could face prison.

"... Bei einer aktuellen Schweizer Autobahnvignette handelt es sich um ein amtliches Wertzeichen, welches einmal aufgeklebt, nur für dieses bestimmte Fahrzeug Gültigkeit besitzt. Wird eine Vignette von einem Fahrzeug entfernt, ist sie als entwertet zu betrachten. Es ist nicht erlaubt, entwertete Vignetten zum Verkauf anzubieten oder an einem anderen Fahrzeug erneut anzubringen. Ebenso ist es verboten Vignetten derart zu präparieren (z. B. mit Klebefolien versehen), dass sie als gültig erscheinen. Diese Manipulationen stellen ein Vergehen im Sinne des Art. 245 des schweizerischen Strafgesetzbuchs vom 21. Dezember 1937 dar. Die Strafandrohung lautet in diesem Fall auf Gefängnis. Dieselbe Strafbestimmung findet sich in § 148 (2) des deutschen Strafgesetzbuches wieder.

Unbeachtlich ist dabei, wie solche Autobahnvignetten angepriesen werden. Es kommt letztendlich nur auf die Zweckbestimmung an. Dabei genügt es, wenn der Anbieter will oder zumindest in Kauf nimmt, dass irgendjemand diese veränderten Wertzeichen als echte oder gültige verwendet, bzw. dass sie in jemandes Verfügungsgewalt übergeht, bei dem die Möglichkeit einer entsprechenden Verwendung besteht.
... Anzumerken bleibt noch, dass echte Sammler die Vignetten nach Ablauf der Gültigkeit kostenlos bei der Oberzolldirektion in Bern beziehen könnten. Ein echter Handel unter Sammlern wäre demnach nur mit älteren Vignetten denkbar;
... Personen, die eine solche aktuelle Autobahnvignetten erwerben, machen sich in gleicher Weise strafbar."
