Can anybody help please?

Recently bought an October 2006 1200 GSA which has not previously been fitted with any electrical accessories other than BMW option of aux’ lamps.

I’m keen to fit an intercom system (haven’t decided which one yet) and also my 2720 GPS.

On my old 1150 GS it was a simple matter of locating a switched live but having had a look around the 1200, and also scanning the site here for threads, it seems there are varying opinions, especially as most of the stuff I’ve found has been relative to pre Oct 2006 standard GS’. Also I’ve seen mention of CANBUS ??? Haven’t a clue what that is but I get the impression it could be really easy to muck up the bikes electrical system.

Does anyone have any experience of the best way to achieve locating a switched live and if so photo’s would be very helpful.?

Many thanks

Steve

Off the back of the aux socket is one of the commonest places to take a switched feed. BMW do a piggy back cable and connector if you want to do it without cutting any wires

Keep it simple and use the feed to the accessory socket under the seat for the intercom (brown wire is negative) and the GPS socket taped to the headstock for the 2720.

You can get a connector for the GPS socket from BMW and make your own lead, check out Stumpy's excellent post on this subject in the GPS section. :thumb

Thanks Stumpy,

Just saved your instructions for the canbus lead as a bookmark so I'll be making good use of them. Looks like it saves a lot of hassle.:thumb

Thanks Thunder,

It seems you could make a killing if you had a few of these canbus plugs. I've just phoned 5 dealers and they've all got them on back order. No worries though I can wait a few weeks. I'll take your advice on the aux socket and try that for the intercom system, once I've decided which one.:thumb

Cheers

Just fitted a Centec ap1 and then I'm going to use that for all my aux's, it stays live but I need the optimate to go in that way.
