Hi
I have a couple of auxilliary lights that have been on my 2001 GS1150 since I purchased it, but were not connected.
Have been advised that they were proberbly fog lights and were disconnected due to not being switched (MOT requirement)

could anyone advise on switching methods with either existing equipment or recommend a suitable 'off the shelf' switch with wiring recomendations.

any help would be greatly appreciated

Paul

Same as mine, good lights, mine came with the auto switch, which is connected to the turn cancel button. Look for a wire up to the switch, reconnect it. Try it may work. Keep it in for a couple of seconds :thumb2

Thinking about it, how would a new owner know how to turn them on/off if connected to the turn canel button. I bet they work.

They're 'Ring' auxilliary lights. I've just fitted a pair to my bike; they're available from Halfords and they also do a wiring kit with switch, fuse and relay for about a tenner. The wiring kit comes with instructions for wiring as driving lights or fog lights, switched or unswitched.
:)

Yeah, I heard you can now get them from Halfords. BMW supplied and fitted mine. Maybe they just look the same:nenau
Check to see if they have been wired up to the turn cancel switch though. As they may have been disconnected due to not knowing how to turn them on & off.

Here are mine. They are mounted with the mounting plate that came with them. The actual light looks the same.

fog lights

thanks guys,
I would like to wire up the lights independant of the main and high beam, I assume that I can connect straight onto the battery via relay and switch.

I dont have an auto switch, any further info on the wiring to the cancel button or type of auto switch etc would be useful.

nice looking bikes ! interesting sat nav mount, do you get the screen vision affected by vibration?

thanks again

Here ya go, just found this. Found it from my receipt.

And this : http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34417

The Sat Nav mount is the Motorrad concepts mount, now Migsel mount. I’ve done 27,000 miles with it fitted there, absolutely no problems at all. No vibration. A proper bit of kit IMO.:thumb2
Just found my receipt for the spot lights fitted by BMW. £270:eek

Hiya.. been reading this as I have heard about using the cancelation switch to power my spots... how is it done? Any points would be greatly appreciated... I have a 2006 1200GS

I have just completed the harness for my fog lights on the RT. I used a relay and to switch the lighst on&off, I have connected the relay to the H4 bulb on the hi beam.

During night, I get full power, while oncoming traffic I switch to low beam so there are no inconveniences towards them ;)

Dan.
