Switzerland Bans Navigation Devices that warn of Traffic Cameras

So the manufacturers just sell units with no data and users load it from some source on the web.
Not hard to create these sort of files even by hand and almost all of the latest navigators support loading it so only the data is illegal.
I sell GPS for a living and I doubt if your average person could work out what was loaded unless the alert was actually going off at the time.
PS in Australia only detectors are illegal.
GPS are fine as they are simply a map and even paper street directorys have Speed Camera locations.
This information is even on the RTA (Road Transport Authority) website.

Note the posts by "TheTremor" in the forum section further down the page: It would appear that simply the act of taking a GPSR into Switzerland with speedcam POI's for any location even if those POI's are outside Switzerland is now illegal. Frankly, it has absolutely nothing to do with the Swiss Federal Highways Department whether or not I have speedcam POI's in the UK loaded on my SP2720, but that won't stop them confiscating it and destroying it if I travel with it in Switzerland
Oh well, that's Switzerland off my map of Europe then...

They (the ASTRA) have changed their mind from making all speedcam POI's illegal to making only Swiss speedcam POI's illegal.
Even that will not last. The Swiss themself are furious.
I would be very surprised if any of us visitors to Switzerland will be fined (and found out) at all.

Oh yes it does. Just doesn't give an audible or visible warning. I've got all the UK locations loaded on mine. Bit like the postcode system; not as good as the modern units but adequate!
