Any ideas? I have a full Remus system with the baffle out and am in need of a MOT before the end of the month. Don't really want a fail for being over loud.

Alternative is to re-fit the original can for the test I suppose.

They dont noise test it so providing its BS stamped as road legal , which it is , you should be OK ?

Just play dumb and dont mention it when you take the bike in.

Castle Garage at Wroxham/Hoveton. Can.t remember number. Thorough but really helpful with MOTs.

My Varadero always passes with v fruity Remus system,

Cash or cheque only.

MOT a bike can go both ways on a loud exhaust. Tell them you like Scotland and you should be OK:)

Not the best advice in the world.

Whether it has BS stamp or not means squat.
The only markings that mean anything for the purpose of the MOT are NOT FOR ROAD USE', TRACK USE ONLY' or similar, which are an automatic fail.

Also whilst they don't use noise meters to test how loud an exhaust is, the tester can fail any exhaust including the OE or BS stamped one for being IN HIS OPINION too loud compared to the noise emitted by a serviceable standard exhaust.
Most exhausts are packed out with sound deadening material as well as metal baffles. This material deteriorates over time/use so the exhaust becomes louder, hence a tester can fail any exhaust that has deteriorated.

So the main criteria is the relative hearing acuity of the tester. Just like plasterers - the older the better.

Booked into Cannon next Thursday for an 18,000 mile service, new tyres and MOT.

Decided to put the original can back on at the weekend (for the MOT only) but the engine ran so roughly that I swapped back to the Remus.

Not sure what to do now ...

doesnt need bs stamp, must be comparable to a similar or same bike with a standard system, shame your not near me, id pass it, its up to the tester:thumb

mustnt have race use only or not for road use stamped on it

Yer Same here. I'm a tester and I'd pass it on noise.

Move south:)

re mot

Hi Chas,
have mine mot'd at R's autos in Acton nr Sudbury, also have remus can never been an issue as Richards a biker too and likes bikes with a proper sound! might be worth giving them a bell on 01787 378080
Cheers. Jo:thumbhn B

Mine never is. Is was trying to say the same as yourself and only the other way around cos I is a bit stupid. I said if its marked as road legal . Which clearly by definition it is if it doesnt have RACE USE ONLY or NOT FOR ROAD USE on it , then he should be OK in my experience. They don't actually noise test it either do they!?:thumb2

Thanks all for your replies and suggestions. I spoke to someone at Cannons who was pretty unconcerned - the MOT place they use has never had an issue with loud pipes and as he said: "Loud pipes save lives".
