Don't you fecking start :blagblah:forry

bloody Club member shit stirrer :D:D:D:D

Tarkas 100% correct 20/50 mineral, personally I use Silkolene or Castrol :thumb2

Button it you didnt complain when you turned up for your 2nd club meet and robbed some of the raffle prizes...Just remember who does the raffle...I could have thrown your tickets out before we started it :augie ........................ :D:D

I know that a BMW doesn't require motorcycle oil as it has a dry clutch, but when St Eptoe serviced my bike, Rock Oil 20/50 is what he uses and if it's good enough for him, then it's good enough for me!

(Mind you, Morris Lubricants also a good range of 20/50 oils too.)

No no no......I distinctly remember St Eptoe saying...always use 15/50 :blagblah

Can you use Castrol R?

I distinctly remember someone saying they use Castrol oil in their GS.

Must smell like an old 2-stroke. I wonder if it smokes lie one too?

Anyone tried the chip oil like Top Gear did in their Merc W-model tank ?

I use a capful of "R" per tank of fuel, if I remember to :rob

Smells lovely :D

Used chip oil for 8 years on various diesels, never failed an emissions test since :thumb2

When Lidl's own was 30 p per liter and diesel was 87p per liter 50/50 mix

BUT cheapest oil I can find now is 93 per liter from Scummerfields :tears:tears:tears

A mate of mine put Spry Crisp and Dry in his RD400 years ago cos he ran out of 2 stroke oil and couldn't afford to buy some, so, he raided his mothers pantry.......I spent about a week riding around with him wondering why I was friggin starving all the time.....AAAAh Happy Days...:thumb :topic

Out of curiosity, does anyone use 100% synthetic in their GS motors?

I've been usuing rock oil 20/50 semi synthetic for the last few years, but I have recently got some American brand Amsoil 20/50 fully synthetic extremely cheap from a friend in the trade, (£1.00 per quart bottle, it usually retails at about £13 a bottle) so I will be using that, daft not to at that price.
However good quality 20/50 mineral oil is available from Harley Davidson dealers, they also sell a synthetic 20/50 as well. The small independent Harley shops often sell other good quality 20/50 oils such as Rev Tech and Bel Ray, or you can put cheap recycled crap into your very expensive motor.

Out of interest, what facts do you base that on?

There are no 'facts' - you can find those on the various synth oil websites.

I prefer anecdotal evidence from real people in the real world. I have read posts over the past 12years from Americans in particular who do mileages that few brits will ever come close to. some have used Mineral. some Semi and some Full synth and when the engine has been opened up there has been no screaming about excess wear - in fact the usual comment is zero or absolute minimal wear.

So what is the point in spending a huge premium on a lube that has no extra benefit?

These bikes are like few others in that respect - they simply aren't fussy. They can't afford to be. need an oil change in central Kazakhstan - you're unlikely to find Fully Synth in the nearest town.

If people want to use fully synth oil in their GS - then thats fine.

The Placebo effect in action is always fascinating. :augie
