Up until a month ago I was using an Arai Rapide 3 helmet (which I have had to long to be safe) and found it to mist on cold mornings so I used a Fogcity insert to cure this problem. I have now got a System 4 helmet which has started to have the same misting problems as the Arai. I was wondering what the people who use a System 4 do about the misting?

Should I get a Fogcity insert or go for the expensive double glazed option that BMW offer (and does it work?) or should I just stop breathing?

Options and help would gratefully recieved.

I also find the noise level higher than my old helmet and presume this is due to the flip-top design?

system 4

Ive got the system 4 lid ive had it for about 3 years
bmw do a double pane visor which is both warm and
mist free but they are about £60

stevie

The double visor does work well, & if you refit the standard visor for late spring thro' to autumn when you don't need the antimist properties the double will last a lot longer, so long as you clean it carefully.

I put a Fog City insert into my System 4 but there's too much reflection off the inside of the visor for my liking - unlike my Arai where it isn't a problem. Funny thing is that the tinted visor for the Sysyem 4 just will not fog up!

Another funny thing is that it is a lot noisier with the visor down than up!

Jay - the Fog City insert you used, was it the normal one, i.e. not double curvature? I have heard that there is a double curvature insert made, but cannot find one. As the System 4 has a double curvature visor, then that wil probably be why you are getting reflections. There is too big an air gap btwn the two. The Aria visors are single curvature, so the air gap is consistent throughout.

Another thing, does anyone with a System 4 have a problem with air flow going into their eyes? I have, and its bloody annoying, especially as the air is getting generally cloder now. Funny thing is, when I place my hand under the chin bar, it seems to stop it. I am thinking that the mesh cover under the chim bar is letting air into the front of the helmet. So i am gonna try taping it up, and if it works, I will get the solid version from BWM.

FB - The Fog City I fitted was supposed to be double curvature and it certainly follows the shape of the visor ok. Not had the problem of air getting up through the mesh cover but perhaps you are a bit taller than me (5'10") and get hit with more windblast.

jay, I am a bit taller, 'bout 6ft, so may make a difference. Out of interest, how much was the insert? I am going to need to either get one of them, or the double glazed BMW visor for the winter as the standard BM visor is starting to mist, with the colder weather. Antifog coating is rubbish.

Cheers, FB

FB - I think that the clear Fog Cities are around the 20 quid mark. I've just fitted one of the photosensitive jobbies to my Arai and that was £29.99 from H-G. Works really well too.

I still can't work out why my System 4 tinted visor does not mist up - I've had it 18 months and would have thought that any anti fog coating would have worn off by now!

My quietest helmet is a Davida Jet. The leather lining seems to cup round the ears very effectively and is a lot quieter than an open face Arai I have.

Thanks for all the help. It looks as if BMW will be getting £60 from me for a Double glazed unit for the winter.

Oh well its only money!!!:D

My System 4 is so draughty it never steams up (no matter what I've been doing :D ).

I'm quite jealous.

Same company Schubert so I'll join the thread is fairly crap for misting up. I recently changed the visor and it seems to be a better fit with less misting. I have used fog city in my Shoei helmets and they have worked fine however in the concept they don't seem to work that well.

Any other manufacturers making something similar???

Or shall I just get the Shoei out for the winter??
