Dropped my BM Helmet today and broke one of the clamps that secures the chin piece. Is it possible to buy replacements or is it scrap?

:(

Rob,

BMW System helmets are made by Schuberth, who have been very co-operative when I've had minor snags with my Concept. Give them a ring on 0049 5313 8005134. This should get you through to Frau Vachendorf (who speaks English). Describe the parts you need and they'll generally supply them (probably free of charge - they were for my Concept).

Their address etc is:

Rebenring 31
38106 Braunshweig (Brunswick)
Germany

Schuberth Importers (who probably have nothing to do with System helmets, but might be worth a call) are:

Tran Am Ltd
William House, Gore Road
New Milton
Hampshire
BH25 6RJ

01425 620580

City,

Just been to pick one up £6.81 + VAT (£8). For the kit which includes all the mounting and pivot parts for both sides.

It wasn't a big knock that snapped the mechanism. It makes you wonder how the helmet would stand up in a proper accident. Mine only fell perhaps a couple of feet, onto carpet, and the chin piece came away completely on one side. There are no markings for standards on the helmet; It can't have the same safety standard has conventional helamets surely?

Thanks for your help

As for Mikes reply - I'm still gobsmacked...Frau Vachendorf ...0049 5313 8005134...amazing!

Yeah,
Mine broke a small lug with a minor bash against a wall, but I managed to get the chin piece back on. Still it is a worry how it will survive.

But thinking of changing to a different flip lid. Don't use a full face whilst touring as it is too much of a pain when you stop for a smoke but am also a bit fed up with the wind noise from the Sys4.

Someone had a spill hast year wearing one of the Sytem 4's - Came clean off. German police stopped using them for some reason - I believe it was over concern for safety after a couple of incidents.

I'ts a worrying helmet because it is only rated as an open face but people will still think that the chinpiece will perform the same function as a full face. Who are BMW to dispel the hype about their product.

This comment aside, once the catches are open it's not advisable to chuck it around or things will break.

One thing I will say is that I'm on my 4th Sytem 4 and all of them have required a tweak to ensure that both catches secure with one handed operation. If only one catch engages it will come right off with a good impact.

Be especially careful to ensure that the chinpiece is secure by a tug upward after securing.
