Having trawled through various thread about the problems with misting up and being crap in rain have these problems been sorted out yet ?
I dont fancy paying out £280 for one and getting grief from it .
I have a Justismo at the moment and find its very noisy even with moulded earplugs is the system 5 quieter ?
Thanks in advance

Well mine still mists up in the rain and in fog the so called anti fog coating gets completely overwhelmed. Doesn't mist up in those conditions but the coating goes all sort of blurry. Ending up being a summer helmet for me and I've gone back to my trusty Arai with Fog City for winter!

The plus point on the S5 is that it is pretty quiet compared to the Arai and my old S4.

The combination of cold and damp causes problems on mine - as Jay says it is a blur rather than a mist. This is the antifog coating making the mist a film of water rather than the usual small particles of water. It clears reasonably well once you get to about 50mph if the vent on the chinpiece is open. If, as the maual says, you run with the visor open a crack it is only a problem standing still at the traffic lights and even at speed the breeze isn't too much of a problem.

I had an old Shoei XR with an anti-fog mask in, then a Schuberth Concept (with breath guard) and now a System 5. Of the three the pre-fog mask Shoei was the worst for misting up. The fog mask solved the problem. The breath guard on the Schuberth helped but the ability to click the visor forward to leave a 2mm gap was the best thing about that helmet in terms of keeping it clear (until it rained and the drops got on the inside of the visor. The System 5 wiould probably benefit from a breath guard to deflect hot wet air away from the inside of the visor, but I think the biggest problem is the velcroed in skirt under the chin which does a great job of making the helmet comfortable and warm but which doesn't leave a gap for breath to escape out the bottom. Taking it out improves things.

In truth I wanted the System 5 because I can convert it to an open face jet helmet. I have a large head and choices are limited so having spent last summer commuting with the Schuberth flipped up all the time (fine till you look down or nod suddenly when it all goes pete tong) the option of an open face helmet this year was unmissable (even at that price). All I need to do is stop by Battersea and get the conversion kit...

I also wore glasses up until a month ago when I realised that most of my misting problems were down to them so I've moved to contacts. Paid for themselves on every occasion when it has rained mucky rain in London.

Bottom line is the helmet is comfortable and quiet until you lift the visor - and unfortunately at this time of year I must ride with the visor open on the first notch to maintain a mist free view. The result is noise/discomfort and red eye after miles of riding with a fine draught around my face.

The chin vent doesn't do the trick for me... and so I'm off to BMW to ask them for a solution/money back. :beerjug:

Hi Gypsy,

I changed from a Justissmo to a system 5. In terms of noise the System 5 is way quieter that the Justissmo.

I have had similar issues with my system V, far worse fogging/blurring than I have ever experienced with ARAI etc.
I have raised with BMW UK & Germany, and they say the fogging etc is worse than my Arai because the Sys V has less less airflow (which is the main reason it its reckoned to be quieter), and the ARAI does not have any anti-fog coating (didn't understand their logic on this!).
Their solutions are 1) fit a double-glazed visor (at a cost of approx £66), 2) open the chin vent (noisy), 3) remove the velcroed chin skirt to create more draft (I have not tried this yet, and it seems to me to defeat the objective of buying a quieter helmet).
My dealer replaced the visor under warranty and this has improved the situation slightly, so there must be issues with the anti-fog coating.
Overall, I regret buying the helmet, because the disadvantages of excessive fogging and additional weight outweigh (excuse the pun) the advantages of flip-up and (slightly) reduced noise.

Hope this helps

System 5

I use the BMW anti mist spray which helps cut down the impact of foging up. My main gripe with it is that you can not open the visor just a few mm to give a better draft. 1st click gives approx 1 cm gap and as a result in the rain you get a little water fall right in front of your eyes!!! :(

Would I buy another one, no would go back to Shoei.

Thanks for the replys gents . Has no one got a good word for them ?

I had the blurred vision in rain problem. Was fixed (under guarantee) with the double glazed visor. I love the helmet now, very quiet and much more comfortable than my S4.

I would buy again, but only if it comes with the double glazing (in addition, as you'd rather be with the EOM one on dry days).

Best helmet I ever had.

Ive been out trying on some of the alternatives today but the system 5 is the best fit for me so i will have to see what the dealer offers or perhaps if someone has a nearly new one they want to sell black/silver size 61 i could afford to buy the double glazed visor

If the anti-fog coating is done by Schuberth, its a bag of crap - the stuff on my S1 didn't last very long. Ended up with a pinlock visor on the S1.....job done.

When the anti-fog coating was overwhelmed an hour into a four hour ride in pouring rain, I sprayed some Novus cleaner/polish on both sides of the visor and buffed it with a dry cloth. The rain flew off the outside and no more fogging inside. It wasn't cold, though - about 22 C.

The Fog City in my Shark works well, although I don't like the slight loss of clarity and night time artifacts. The crystal clear view in the System 5 is excellent. Very comfortable. The vents work well, although the chin vent is noisy. Very happy with it.

The System 5 appears very practical, like any flip up helmet. Whilst I struggled to feed my Camelbak straw into my Arai at the lights whilst touring, my riding buddy simply flipped open his system 5 one-handed and had a drink. His BM helmet is also much quieter than my Arai Astro J (with plugs) so I am probably going to buy one myself in time and keep the Arai for trackdays.

That flip front also helps when one needs to 'chastise' other road users. The F word is unmissable when you can see the lips moving, no grey areas there then. :D
