I have had a System 4 Helmet for some time and was thinking of going to get the system 5 as a replacment. I have seen only on photos the Arai Tour X and now thinking if this would be a better replacement...one last thing does the Autocom 7 Sport helmet speaker and mike fit into the Arai ok.........any views thanks Stewart

I've a System 5 and its outstanding. Only the better ARAI models come close to the low noise of the System 4 despite it being open face.

If you need to replace you wont go wrong with a System 5. Do bare in mind it is lipped at the front slightly near brow and gives many people headaches. An odd design that works for some but not for others - I bought my helmet after the guy realised after he'd took it out the shop (so couldn't return). Only paid £180 :)

The new BWM parrot head off road lid is out very soon....might be worth hamging on a bit to look at that as well.

The speakers fit very nicely into the Tour X. I did find that the wind could set off the vox on the mic, more so than on a standard helmet because of the long chin guard. An Oxford Huff Breath Deflector comes with a nice little chin curtain and is a very good bit of kit to stick in. I have heard though that the newer Tour X's dont work well with velcro fasteners - something to do with the lining. Could be wrong though.

Have fun,

Mike

On mine I lifted the inner liner 4mm and made it a lot better. I also found that the velcro'd chin piece caused the buckle to grate on my jaw, soon sorted by removing the chin piece.

I find the System five an excellent helmet, quiet, well ventilated, light, comfortable and with an easy to use flip front.

Much better than a Schuberth Concept although I miss the sun visor.

My Tour-X had to go as it was, despite mods, giving me headaches and the next size up was too big.

The only advantage of a Tour-X over the System 5 IMHO is in looks.

And the peak, pretty much indespensible as we come into Autumn/Winter and a low sun (and a pain in the arse at anything over 90mph  )

I've got both - bought the System 5 for practicality and the Tour-X for cool looks.

Depends what you're doing and what your bike/screen setup is. I ride a Dakar with a big-ish screen.

At slow speeds (eg in town and off road) the Tour-X is great - well ventilated, looks great (esp with tinted visor) and keeps the sun out of your eyes. Visibility is excellent with the hugh visor giving 180 vision.

At anything over 50-60, however, it is a completely different story. The constant droning of the peak together with the instability caused (I think) by the huge chin piece; the openness of the chin piece (which causes a huge draft over the face/eyes which is great in hot weather but a pain for a long journey/cold weather) and the general noise make this a complete no-no in my book for long journeys - I say this having just come back from 4500 miles in Norway wearing one!

System 5 doesn't look as mean, but for long journeys at speed (as much as my Dakar can manage anyway!) it is absolutely miles ahead of the Tour-X - more comfortable, quieter, better visor (easier to swap over too as no tools required unlike the Tour-X) less drafty in cold weather and with flip up.

I'm lucky to have both, but if I was to only have one it would be System 5 - no hesitation. (With maybe a £50 moto helmet for muddy adventures!)

Everyone's different tho - only my tuppence worth!

Price of both helmets comparable?

Hi, are the prices of these helmets comparable in your home countries?

Thanks.

Sys 5 - RRP £285; Tour-X RRP £299.

Deals available on the Tour-X but seems that BWM dealers reluctant to discount.

Hope this helps!

System 5

May be of interest to know that you can convert the system5 to an open face one with the addition of the Jet Sides. £30 from BMW Dealers.M&P do a Sunax Sunshield for £10 that should slot between the outer shell and the forehead padding.

I bought a dark visor for my system 5 helmet. Bined it in Italy on the way to Tunisia. When you faced into the sun, you could not see that well as it went milky if that makes sense.
