Please can somebody shed some light on issues I'm having with a very recent purchase of a System 6 helmet, along with the BMW fitted communication system.

Scenarios is as follows:

I have an iPhone 4s, Garmin Zumo 550 and the above helmet. I've paired the phone to the Zumo and then the Zumo to the helmet. I'm able to get voice instructions as clear as a whistle through to the helmet :D I am also able to dial out using the Zumo that is connected to the phone, again clear as a whistle :D however, and here is the issue I can't resolve- as soon as I receive an incoming call, the number is displayed on the Zumo in front of me, so it's ringing, but I receive no ringing tone through to the helmet, even if I answer the call on the Zumo still nothing into the helmet.

James from BMW Oxford spent a good couple of hours with me yesterday trying to resolve this, including updating the Zumo using the webupdater. Still the same issues. We then tried an iPhone 3GS and it worked.

Does this all point to an issue with the iPhone 4s, the Zumo or something else...

Any help greatly received :blast

I should also point out that I visited James at BMW Oxford twice yesterday. After leaving him in the morning following the updates the 1st call came through a treat, as it should do. From then on back to the problem mention in the 1st post :blast

Not sure about 550....

but I have a Zumo 660 / iPhone 4 / System6 with BMW bluetooth and it all works fine.

I have, as you, phone connected to 660, 660 connected to Helmet.

The phone connects to 660 thru the phone setting in the 660 and the helmet connects to the 660 thru the audio settings in the 660.

With that it all works fine... :D Hope thats some help.

Thanks for some positive news, giving me some hope that it does all work, only difference here is you have the 660. Are you using a 4S as well.

Can you expand a bit further on "through the audio" Cheers

I have got a 660 / System 6 / 4s mate, so can't really comment on the 550, BUT the 4s has Bluetooth 4 and the 3GS uses Bluetooth 2.1 so there are different bluetooth stacks at work.

Mine is paired as follows

4s Paired to the 660 as a Phone

660 paired to the System 6

Calls come in on the 4s, they display on the 660 and are picked up by the system 6 when / if I press the answer button.

I would suspect it's the bluetooth compatability issue relating to the 4s's later version of Bluetooth.

Thank you- I will give that a go. Fingers crossed

On the 660 when you open the the Bluetooth settings you have 4 options, the two main ones are Phone and Audio, you select Audio and Add Device as you would for connecting the phone. When you do a search for discoverable devices, it finds the helmet and bobs your uncle.....:D

My phone is the straight iPhone 4

Well- I think I've tried all of the suggestions. Anybody kind enough to let me call them and go through it over the phone? Cheers Guy

The piephone 4 is Bluetooth 2.1 as well, not that it matters as it's a 660 :) It may be worthwhile the OP trying to find someone with a 4 as well and try that, if that works, then the problem is the 4s's implementation of BT4, or looking at it another way the older BT version on the 550.

I would but I'm stuck out at Ramstein AFB until the weekend, so if you can't resolve it by then I don't mind.

All your replies are much appreciated- but still no joy. It's doing everything apart from providing sound inside the helmet when there is an incoming call.

Phone is connected to the 550 using the "connect phone"

550 connected to the helmet via "connect headset"

Under the audio section, it is set for Phone, MP3 and GPS. If I change the audio setting to phone only then nothing is heard inside the helmet.

I'm really at a blank:blast although I'm not over technical I think my knowledge is good enough to make this work. So, I'm either being THICK or there is another issue. Who knows?:nenau

I am,but the issue was still there prior to their network issues.

Hi Guy
I have the system 6 bluetooth as well conected to my 660 and using an old Nokia phone, the reason i mention the old phone is that a couple of people I have talked to have had problems using bluetooth via satnav and helmet because of the phone is of a newer type.
A good friend of mine could not get his Schuberth C3 bluetooth to work via his satnav, when he tried it using a cheaper phone it all worked perfectly.
I know this sounds rubbish but it worked for him, he now uses an older phone and can send and receive calls no problem.
When I start up my bluetooth I have found that it works best if I first start up the helmet, then the sat nav and let them pair then I start up the phone bluetooth and let that link to the satnav.
Hope this helps, I live in Gloucester and am retired so i am availible during the weekday so I you still have no joy we could meet up and try your system against mine.

I don't have the same set up as you, and this is a bit of a long shot, but have you got the latest Firware for your Zumo 550?

I seem to remember when the iPhones first came out there where some issues similar to yours that may have been fixed with updates.

You'll need to use WebUpdater to check and this link tells you how to do it. It should list all updates available if I remember correctly.

It may also be worthwhile checking out the Zumo forums if you haven't already.

Bob

Cheers Rodders- I will try pairing today in the sequence you have suggested and see what happens. Many thanks Guy

Thanks Bob- yep, I have updated to the latest Garmin firmware using webupdater on their site:nenau

i have spoken with Garmin today who have said that because the Zumo 550 is an older device it is likely that there is a compatibility issue with the bluetooth version being used on the iphone4s and the zumo. They don't have a solution and suggested that i buy the 660! Great - nice to see that a product becomes obsolete after a very short period of time. I thought they wer still producing the 550? Maybe not?
