i have spoken with Garmin today who have said that because the Zumo 550 is an older device it is likely that there is a compatibility issue with the bluetooth version being used on the iphone4s and the zumo. They don't have a solution and suggested that i buy the 660! Great - nice to see that a product becomes obsolete after a very short period of time. I thought they wer still producing the 550? Maybe not?

To be fair to garmin, it's actually Apple that introduced Bluetooth 4.x to the iPhone 4s, Bluetooth 2.1 as used in the 550 is still a very common standard, and used in the iPhone 4 iirc.

It does not help, but I can see it from their side, Apple are the ones to blame
