Incoming rant!
I bought myself a System 7 Evo last year, and though I like the helmet, it has to have the worst pinlock system I have ever had the misfortune to own.
After less than 6 months, I took it back to the dealer because the pinlock was just not sealing. No matter what you did with the pins, it would leak water in at the top or steam up at the bottom (sometimes both at once). The loose pinlock also scratched the inside of the visor at both sides. There was also the problem that the rubber seal along the top of the visor appeture was flapping loose at one side.
Thankfully, John Clark Motorrad were able to get me a new visor and pinlock and fitted a new seal before the worst of the winter weather hit.
Unfortunately, over the last six months, the pinlock has invariably slackened off enough to cause the same leaking and misting and needed adjusting pretty much every time it rained (which is often up here in Scotland.)
This week, I'd had enough, so I went back to JCs to see if they could fix/replace the visor and pinlock again, only to be told that it was unlikely as they had never heard of this problem from anyone else and they had struggled to get BMW to replace it last time.
The reason given is that because I'm an instructor, I wear it a lot more than most and will be constantly raising and lowering my chin bar and visor.
Now I've checked the literature that came with the helmet, and nowhere in it can I find the section that says there is a limit on the number of times one should wear their helmet in a set duration or a restriction on the number of times one should raise or lower their chin bar/visor.
I think I recently read that BMW have increased the length of the warranty on their helmets to five years? Could anyone in the know confirm this for me?
So before I go back to them, I was wondering if I really am alone in having issues with the pinlock on the System 7 helmet, or is it just as useless for others?
Cheers.
Alan
