Hi all........ collecting a set of second hand system cases tonight. There has never been cases to the 650GS, the guy I'm buying from only has the cases, what else do I need to fit them??? :thumb2

Er, ...

... you need to tell us which 650GS the Single or the Twin; both had hard luggage as an optional extra, both were 'Vario' type i.e. expandable. The single requires mounting mushrooms and a lower rail, the twin much the same although I haven't looked too closely as the Jaqbike came pre-mounted :augie Those for the single also had a pretty ornamental alloy 'skin' with the same impact resistance as treacle toffee :blast

As far as I'm aware, the two sets are not interchangeable

RB,

As above, the expandable panniers you are looking at 'hang' from a single stud that screws into the side of the bike below the seat near the rear. There may be a round blanking plate on your bike if the stud was never fitted. As these studs can be screwed out, make sure you either have them, or get them - otherwise the panniers will be fairly useless! The boxes then rest on the lower rails which you'll also need.

In essence, make sure you either get these two parts (2 on each side) from the seller or you will need to but them subsequently. Lots of info on the F over on The Chain Gang site

Oh... and does anybody know if they an be coded to my key

Easily coded but before you leave the seller, make sure the locks are removed whilst he has his key available. If you don't you are gonna regret it :thumb

I have Varios. They are fine for road work. Mine have taken me around Europe and didn't fall apart even though I did get them on the deck whilst cornering.

They touch down just before the TT pegs and then both tyres let go, like an early warning system :D:D:D

Seller has had them in his attic for the past year........... so no keys, but the boxes were not locked..... am I still going to have regrets:tears

No need to regret, take them down to the local dealer. They have a box filled with unwanted keys usually. One of them will fit. Also do a google search for the bmw pannier lock keying, before you go to the dealer, so you know how its done. A chappy has put up a nice picture story on how he did it.

I'm almost certain that if the cases are unlocked the locks can be removed without need of the original key.
You can then fiddle with the leaf's swapping them around till you find a set-up the works with your key. you might have to leave out one, two or three leaf's, but locked is locked, and IMO is still better than having to carry extra keys when a large screwdriver will break into it anyway.

As for the other bits; you'll need two mushrooms and two lower support bars with a rear tie bar. Have a look at Motorworks site, or ask your local BW dealer. Also look on eBay and put a want add in all the relevant sites.

Established another trade.... so now I'm a chippy, sparks, plumber, tiler, window clearer and now a lock smith. Having read all posts and links.... all very helpful, I managed to key the system cases to my ignition key... very simple when you have friends like you.:thumb:thumb:thumb:thumb:thumb
