my son got into the setup menu or boot up menu, - not sure which, - made a system password for bootup, (so his sister can't use "his" computer, - yeah like he paid for it???).

So now on startup a system password is required, - but the one that he tells me he used does not work. I have tried every combination of the letters, - caps lock on etc, but nothing, nada.

So right now we have a PC doing nothing.

It is Dell GX620, - I have tried system restore, but I just can't get by the request for a system pasword, - I cannot get in by pressing the F2 or F12 key.

Can anybody help? Please............

Yours, tearing his hair out, - if I had any!!

BIOS password reset

easy...look up in the manual ( referrred to in the IT world as RTFM ) ...
there is a small jumper you have to hold over 2 pins for a few seconds on the motherboard and this resets the startup BIOS password !

look at that 4 mins and I get a solution, BIG thank you for that xylo66, and thanks for the PM with the offer of more help. Could not find the book but I found the little blighter of a jumper, - not easy in an ultra small motherboard, - but it had the PSWD letters next to it, - pulled it and BINGO, Bob's your uncle Fanny's your aunt. You may have saved my son from something!!
