Tagounite to Erg Chebbie

Hi,

I'm planning a Morocco trip for approx 3 weeks leaving the UK on 20th April. Side note.. this forum is a really good resource - i read just about all of the Morocco part

On the Michelin 742 map, there is a trail from Tagounite (south N9) to Erg Chebbie (via Zguilma and Agoult). It is about 250kl long. Anyone done this? Are there petrol stops along the way? Any advise?

Also, never done off road before. Only past my test in Sept last year so advice welcome. Got a kitted up F800GS and plenty of stamina and a friend whos done this all before. What could go wrong

Why don't you go with a group? Safety in numbers, other folk to help you pick it up (again), lots of tips and advice from those that have done it before, etc etc. I went this time last year with Bill (Fanum on this forum) and his Moto-Morocco crowd. As a novice off-roader it was the best thing I could have done. Him and Timolgra led us across a series of ever more challenging routes so by the end of the couple of weeks I was riding across stuff that I would have NEVER ridden across on my own, and didn't bat an eyelid at things that would have freaked me out previously. Down-hill hairpins on gravel were my nemesis - after we'd done several hundred of them they didn't bother me anymore!

I've no connection with Moto-Morocco other than really liking what they do.

Like the pic. I had thought about an organised trip but costs are getting too high. Since Sept i've bought a new bike, plus loads of touratech stuff, plus camping gear, cost of test etc. I told my "very understanding wife" that the bike trips would be very cheap

I understand your point though. May do a trip next year.

I'm all for adventure but this is NOT something you should tackle solo with luggage, given your experience level. Sorry mate.

There are shorter tracks you could take such as from Boumalne or Tinerhir (N10) to Nekob (N12). This is half the length with an auberge about half way.

Not solo, there are two of us. The other guy has 6 years GS experience including a NE African adventure.

I already charted Tinerhir to Nekob - looks good.

Was not sure about Tagounite to Erg Chebbie hense the question.

Hello,the piste from tagounite to Erg chebbi seems fine apart from Tafraoute to Remlia,as there is the sandy river of ghress.Also,there is fueling points in oum jrane,tafraoute,Remlia.

Thanks, this is useful. On Google Maps, it looks like it crosses the boarder into Algeria. Could this be correct?

Steve, the piste between Tagounite and Erg Chebbi runs close to but not into Algeria.

We will be doing the piste slightly North of your route from Merzouga to Tamegroute via Remlia in April.

Himmi, Moha, Youssef and Mohammad (merzougazagoura from this site) will be more than happy to greet you if you stop for a mint tea in Remlia The photo on this page of the 'road sign' was taken by us as we approached remlia two years ago.

The fesh fesh (soft sand) just West of Remlia can be a little tough going even in 4 wheels

Mint Tea sounds good We're not sure on our route yet, still planning. All that is curtain is that we leave the UK on 20th April. I will post something nearer the time.

At small town called Mrirt right now. Did not quite make Marrakech. Will attempt Tamegroute to Erg Chebbi in a few days time
