TAILPIPE EXTENDER FOR GSA WITH METAL PANNIERS?

Do I need one?
I had an 1150GS years ago, bought some used TT panniers and had to fit an extension to the tailpipe so it took heat away from the pannier.
Now got an 1150GSA with Ard Cases. Do I need to do the same thing with the tailpipe? There’s an extender up for sale on here that I’ve said i’ll buy, but just wondered if I actually need one.

What exhaustcan has the bike got? My exhaust side panner is blackened with the Remus. Standard can retains the heat more and so the pannier doesn't discolour.

It's a new Sebring Twister and Y-piece. Some say the Twister is a rebadged Remus! I haven't ridden the bike with the panniers on yet (it's a recent purchase) so I'll have to give it a try. I bought the extender anyway, just in case, as they don't come up for sale very often.

I had a fast blast up the motorway towards Newry from Dublin using Vern's panniers, Remus and no extension pipe. I burnt a big hole in my jeans which were inside the lh pannier.

I had to borrow a pair of jeans for a few days from Aidan which shall we say, are 'considerably' larger!

Bit of exhaust bandage on the pannier would have prevented that! Or some of that heat shield for behind the cooker....

I found on my gsa that I melted the numberplate and it's hanger. I now have a pipe extender.

Knocked up a "pipe extender" quite a few years back, bit of tube bit of welding
