Take care , for foreign plated vehicles in Spain

St Eptoe is right.

The ability of Spanish police to fine motorists varies between whether their victim is a Spaniard with a locally registered vehicle or a tourist.

In essence, if it's a tourist the police can issue an on the spot fine / impound the vehicle / take the culprit to a cash machine. They cannot do so for a local. Hence the attraction in spotting foreign vehicles, so much more time and cost efficient.

Seems like a good idea to me; perhaps UK plod should take it up, too.

During the summer months, some 40 per cent of speeding offences are committed by drivers in foreign plated vehicles.

Locals receive their fines etc through the post if captured on camera as my missus found out recently. Tourists have to pay up front or how else are they supposed to deal with them. You wont get ripped off or marched off to a cash point, you can pay via card there and then and you will be given a receipt. :thumb

...I believe this technology is about to spread like a virus through all of Europe. It appears that something similar is happenining in Italy too. I can put up with the on the spot fine but I woinder can they now trace you back to your UK address as well? ....what about points on your license?

you might make 70euro from the victims but you can be sure that you'll lose thousands when they dont return:comfort

Tourists not return when they have been fined about EUR 70 for a traffic offence?

Are you feeling aright?

UK Police have been doing this for over a year now! Google 'graduated fixed penalty scheme' and read all about it. In essence, on the spot fine to non uk residents. If they can't pay vehicle is imobilised (traffic cars now carry a big feck off cable and padlock) until they do. They can still elect to be summonsed to court, where their 'deposit' is returned to them if they are found not guilty!

ps, Clive (RC30 Kent M/c's was delighted to know all is still well!!!!!).
