What nobody will tell you for fear of sounding stupid, is the dangers of walking in the countryside.
Here are a few you might not think of:-

Lone walkers can be set upon by rogue locals out to steal from you, old style bandy highwaymen types.
Choosing the suitable area first is key, or go in groups is better.

Knowing what is around the corner, tree felling if close to woodland areas, with heavy traffic on forestry roads travelling at speed.

Lastly, two that few would even consider plausible in the highlands of Scotland, Wild, even domesticated animals such as cows with calf's, can prove deadly if you confront them too quickly.
Yes and other wild animals I have witnessed, large prey cats, the size of which can only be described as a Panther size, in a state of hunger, emaciated due to lack of proper food kills. Last one I saw in 1988 near Kingussie.

Final one is haunted villages and surroundings, bothies, castles, and heathland, all of which have ancient burial or have been used as sacrificial sites in the distant past. As far back when Druids roamed the lands. These are not very well documented, even the villagers will seldom talk about them.

Believe this as you will, have only ever experienced that the once, and I will never go back there ever again.
Many hill walkers and climbers go missing in the highlands every year, never ever to be seen again!

Oh! but enjoy the fresh air and the Midge! :D

I have created you a fresh thread.
