Take one idiot, add one carbtune and watch him ruin a perfectly good running bike!:o :D

Yup, thought I'd have a little play last night and fine tune the bike as it didn't seem as smooth as it was when Steptoe sync'ed it some time ago. So I hooked up the carbtune and it seemed out on idle, but it was hard to tell as on idle the carbtune bounces about everywhere. Still, I manged to get it about right. Then I increased the revs to 3k and it was definetly out. I manged to adjust that until it was level. Simple job really, nothing to it.:)

Rode it to work this morning and realised what a mess of it I had made:rolleyes: :P Bike was lurching about all over the place at low revs. made for some interesting filtering i can tell you!:( :P :D Oh, and its flat as a witches tit everwhere else and just generally very unresponsive.

So, I'll have another try tonight, see if I can cure it or kill it altoghter!:P I swear I heard it say "Steptoes?" as I pulled off the drive this morning! ;) :P :D

Perhaps the fact that you spent two and a half days asking how to remove a silencer should have been used as a warning not to meddle with it...

If you think you know what you`re doing, you probably don`t. ;)

Thats cos I couldn't find 1 bolt and a LAMBDA sesnor that I didnt have anyway! :P :D

Did you remember to replace the little rubber nipple covers when you took off the carbtune ?

Yup.:)

I think you should be adjusting it higher up the rev range anyway, around 4 - 4.5K.

I'll try that tonight. Thanks.:)

With the carbtune you should have got little brass bits that goes into the pipes. Thore are supresors that adjust the vacum preassure so the needles don't jump making the process fair easier...

Try this, its the same process...

I had to remove and lube the stainless rods to get them to move at all let alone bounce.

Actually that was exactly what the problem was! I tried it again last night and found I could get different readings with out making any adjustments! So I pulled the carbtune to bits. The rods were a bit furry so i gave them a real good polishing and put some light oil on them. It was different now. I managed to get some stable readings and made some adjustments, although as much as I tried to keep the throttle cable still when tightening the nut back up, it still seemed to move.:mad: I guess theres a knack there?

But overall a big success. I can now see out of my mirrors at 80mph where as before it was just a fuzzy blur. The bike is still a bit lumpy at slight throttle openings. but i do wonder if the new chip has altered the mixture, or weather it needs the CO2 resetting? I have one of those Gundon CO2 meters but have never had much success with it. So I think I'l leave well alone. Plus the baffle has come loose inside the can, so there maybe a combo of things that need sorting out. I think I'll get the baffle welded then book it in with Steptoe and get him to check/adjust the CO2 and sync the TBs. Probably best to see how its done properly.

Thanks for posting those pics Whatton. You are a Gent Sir. I did have the PDFs you sent me as well, but as Mr Tesco says, Every little helps!:P
