My existing '06 GSA is a little over 82k miles old, has had a tough life and handled it remarkably well. So I find myself considering a replacement... Mavette has suggested I should get a new GSA and I confess, I am extremely tempted!

Other options including tarting up my existing bike and keep running it (would be great to get it to 100k), or getting a used GSA and saving a chunk of money.

So do your worst! Tell me all that is wrong with the watercooled GSA and therefore why I shouldn't buy one!

Just do it :thumb2

Life's too short to be talked out of things that you know you actually want anyway, and you know what the opinions of all here are worth......about as much as they cost you :D

Whatever you do though, promise you won't get angst over what colour and start posting questions like that about it :blast

Enjoy it while you can, for it's a long time gone :beerjug:

What can you justify to yourself?

A new £15,000 bike?

Or a low-mileage twincam GSA at £9k

That £6k would buy a second bike............

As Nike said "Just do it!

You know how it is...you made a mistake and ended up with the fat girl :green gri. Now you are older and wiser and still want to go for an even fatter girl:blast, give a go to the slim girl . You may be surprised :rob.

....it's not that the new the GSA is not right for you it's just that the new RT would be better

Apart from the fact that having tried one for a few days that I couldn't get on with it... Mavette says: "No way!"

It is pretty hard to argue with this logic... and many of my spares would fit too...

Been there Mav, '05 bike with lots of miles, test rode the usual subjects and neeeeeeeeeearly, so neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeearly got the KTM1190..........but...........in the end decided to keep the GS 'and spend a relatively small amount of money keeping it sweet. Mainly 'cos it MORE than does what I want, it's lacking for nothing as far as I'm concerned. The newer bikes are marginally quicker and handle marginally better. To me that's not worth £15k. The Husky and two Tomos's I bought instead cost a fraction of that and I've still got my 'more than I need' '05 GS.

Oh, and there was a time when my 'quirky' bike became the most common bike out there but now all the wannabes have moved onto the latest, bestest my '05 is getting to be quirky again :D

But hey, WTF, it's only money - if you want one get one, that's the only justification you need :)

I've been mulling over this very same conundrum. My 1st option would be a very nice late twin cam GSA and they are out there for sensible money. However, as I'm putting it through my business I'll be going for a WC GSA mainly because I can reclaim the 20 % VAT which brings down the price to an acceptable level.

I'll be keeping it for 5/6 years and doing 100k plus so a new bike with warranties etc makes a lot of sense. I'll be having a very basic spec with only heated grips, cruise control and riding mode pro. I don't want or need all the other gubbins.

Tough call Mav but don't FFS ride a WC or you'll be hooked:thumb2

I've had a go on both the regular GS and the GSA - both truly remarkable machines.

Like you, I would probably go with a fairly basic spec plus the pro modes (mostly for the off road - although regular enduro mode is pretty damn impressive).

Has yours gotten to 100k yet? I've only really had one catastrophic failure - as in stopped me going where I was going... maybe I'm just unduly cautious and there's plenty of life in the old girl... And the bike :D

She's got 104,000, going as well as ever and will be doing a nice little run to Yellowstone in September so I reckon she'll be 115,000 by the end of the year. I've got some big trips coming up next year and just think she needs a quieter life so I'm going to use her for local running around and for when the WC is over the pond getting the crap beaten out of it on the Dalton:D

The worst? Well there's always the price. It makes some rattling noise at idle that's audible w/o earplugs. With all it's bars, windshields, lights, and crevices, it's a PIA to wash and dry off. The resume feature on my cruise control sometimes doesn't resume to the previous speed but that'll get corrected whenever I go back to the dealer.

Glad you didn't ask what I like about it coming from my previous GSA because that would be a long reply.

You know, I took my GSA out today, ostensibly to scrub in the new rear... which rapidly descended in to playing on the lanes!

And I was reminded just how capable this bike is... I think I just talked myself out of a new GSA :blast :D

...And if you do get one ... and then mention 'how many sleeps' ..... I'm gonna put you on ignore .... :D

On this occasion Mr Fanum is right ... just buy one and be done with it. Money is for spending and life is there for enjoying so get on with it.

It's that simple to get you to put me on ignore?

:D
