Having ridden a 1100 and 1150gs for several years i decided it was time for a change so after research i decided i would try a 1200 and 800 gs plus the KTM adventure.Yesterday had the 1200 for the morning and found it to be dull and predictable,the 800 in the afternoon was a blast and loved it BUT after an hour found my back was aching when arrived back at Rainbow three hours later was having second thoughts,aching legs and back ,presuming the seat is partly to blame and maybe the footpegs are higher than the 1150 making my leg bend more.How are other tall riders (i am 6ft 3") coping or is it just me.Really would like to own one,was wodering wether to try again with the so called comfort seat.

F8GS, I get aching legs & expand them out or stand up while going along. I need a higher seat really. I use a putnam's stadium blow-up seat for long-distance journeys. Maybe even bar risers also..still love my f800. Tis alive I tell u..

Hi there, i've got a GS1200adv, and i'm 6ft 4". I'm suffering with an aching back at the moment. The dealer has suggested trying the lower seat from the standard GS and Bar risers. But i think it's because i'm so bolt upright that i'm aching mid back.
Apparently its not uncommon in taller riders. It's pissing me off a bit though 'cos people travel the world on these things.
I'll try the lower seat for a few days (courtesy of dealer) and see how that goes. The risers are £60 odd quid so not sure whether to gamble on that or not.

In response to you finding the GS12 dull, it can be pepped up quite nicely by putting a complete Akro system on it. Noticeable mid range improvement, but more importantly, gives the bike a lot more character. Just sounds and feels more aggressive and purposeful. Money well spent in my book, cos it felt a bit 'polite' before.
Yes but never had a problem with the 1150 with back ache have travelled all day on several occasions no hassle.The dealer suggested the 1200adv instead not so sure myself.
I am only 5'11", but I still find that the standard ergos of the 800 a bit of a pain. I have Fastaway footpegs in the lower position and find that a great improvement, more legroom, and much better when you stand up. They are also a bit further back which helps me anyway as I think the standard pegs are too high and too far forward.
If I was buying a new 800 and knew what I know now I would try to get the Rallye seat instead of the standard one. Looks higher and more comfortable.
As it is I am hoping to get the seat modified to be a little higher, flatter and more comfortable.

I have come to the conclusion that it's all about the seat, the standard one if great for about an hour or so, but any more than that and I find my legs, back and arse all pretty damn painful. I guess there are other areas that could be improved to increase comfort, such as the height of the pegs.
Have a good look around for seats, there is plenty of choice, such as the Corbin / Sergant options.

Yes seen a guy who had his seat altered by Tony Archer in Huddersfield and said it made a huge improvement he was also going to lower the pegs.Just seems it may be a bit of a gamble spending 7K on bike that you can only ride comfotably for a hour,there again its not really designed for touring.

Well i'm 5" 5 and three quarters (very important that last bit) and don't have any problems whatsoever. I know that doesn't help you at all but couldn't resist the dig as us small people normally get the bad deal

Yeah but on the flip side I can see over my handlebars
I've done a 340+ mile trip on the F800GS, I was in pain come the end but I am sure if I were to make a few mods I would be more comfortable, I am tempted by a Corbin / Sargent (sp?) seat, but at £300+ I'm a little put off :-(

try these guys and you can have a rallye type seat for under £200.
i have had several seats done by tony archer in huddersfield, very good at his job but tell him Exactly what you want otherwise he goes in to his artistic licence mode.
