On the way home on my 1100 I discovered that my long legs and tall frame did not get on with the low seat currently in place. I raised it up on its current higher notches, but its still too low. Combined with the height of the footpegs (I think they are at a standard setting) I had a pretty uncomfortable ride home from north London. Infact, my YBR is very comfy in comparison

What are the things available on the market I can gather to raise the seat and generally make the bike comfortable on long journeys? Does someone want to swap a low for a high seat? :nenau

I have 36" inside leg and a knackered left knee

Put some packers under the seat catches on the frame.

I've also used some better foam in the seat which doesn't collapse so easily....oh and lower footpegs:)

Hi,
Your options are great:thumb2
Get your current seat re-done by someone such as Tony Archer
Borrow another seat to see if it suits (I run mine in the top position, and have had an extra inch of foam added)

When converting the R1100 GS the original seat very often spoils the new look. Many R1100 GS riders also need more height choices.
Now we offer a beautiful, elegant sports seat, available in five different heights:
standard: 860 mm
high: 890 mm
low: 840 mm
extra high: 920 mm
extra extra high: 940 mm

The integral bucket shape seat platform of our sports seat guarantees comfortable long distance riding.

I'm lovin' my Migsel pegs. Had to fit TT gear lever and modify the brake as well so not a 5 minute job.

similar.. I fitted the SW Motech varieties... didn't need to adjust anything else though. Bit pricier than the migsel ones. but in my view - worth it as they're much wider and have rubber inserts if you want them. (I did)

Thank you all for the very interesting replies :thumb2 Will pass on the apehangers though Kaister :augie

Also got a load of PM's - my inbox is now 95% full! Vern has offered me a try out on the raiser kit Timolgra and Ash mentioned, but I have a feeling a higher seat may also need to be aquired - that will teach me to be a lanky git.

Would love the TT saddle as I had a chance to try one out on a 1200GS this summer, but I can't afford it for a month because I've just forked out cash on the 1100GS. Will look into Tony Archer's seat options.

The lowered pegs is an option as I'm not a knee-down fanatic. I've had people not recommending them because they would wear down quickly, but I think I'll be fine ;) At its current settings I find it nearly impossible to stand on the pegs - do these ones recommended above come sturdy enough for this kind of treatment?

I'm glad I'm not the only tall rider out there after all :beerjug:

I had the opposite problem being a short ass! I have just ordered my 3rd seat as bike came with standard, then bought a low BMW one and now ordered a recovered one from Nick Marshall of this parish :)

Standard just that bit too tall, lowered one was OK in height but not very comfy so lets see how this one goes :) I still have other 2 aswell!
