Recomendations for a tankbag to fit 1200gs please
Nozza

Do a search on this site, under the 1200 section.

Several threads on the topic.

IMHO one of the TT bags is best, the BuMW being:

Too big.

Too expensive.

The map pocket doesn't take A4.

Awkward to use.

No need to say more.

The Touratech 055-1132 has my vote easy to put on and take off its waterproof and comes with a A4 detachable map pocket if you need it and it really does look the dogs bollocks.£177 but worth every penny.

New BM one, ie GSA specific

£140 ish

Does take an A4 sheet

Waterproof, if you want

Not too big, but can be extended

As easy as any other tank bag

Need any more information?

Cheers fellas, will do the search after the 'filem' finishes.
ta for replys

I had the BMW tank bag for the 1200 and it was superb. 100% waterproof, easy to put on and take off. Held everything I wanted and comes wiyth a really neat mini bagwhich is ideal for your mobile and wallet/passport etc...

Excellent bit of kit.

I had a look at the SW Motech engage yesterday, it's one of the small ones with the filler cap quick release ring. Impressed with the quality and the range of adjustment although I may have to adjust the crossbrace when I get one. Like the size as I don't like large tankbags and don't need a mapcase, all I'll put it it is camera, mp3 player and phone anyway.

I have the small SW MOTECH tankbag shown above. I did not want a large bag so went for the Motech. Easy to fit, and it does not touch the tank. A quick release pin means it can be taken off in seconds. I think they do larger bags as well but all use the same fittings.

Tommo, I agree, the Touratech 055-1132 does look the dogs, which is why I ordered one, but I've just sent it back. It's got a loose waterproof liner inside which, if you put all your stuff in there, makes it into a 'waterproof tankbag'. It looks to be much the same as the Touratech 055-1124, which has a slightly reduced capacity but doesn't rip you off to the sum of £71 for a 'plastic bag' to make it waterproof  ... you have to find your own plastic bag :thumb
The BMW one, which I've had for the last 2 years, is totally waterproof without having to muck about with separate 'bin liners'.
If I were buying a new tankbag now, I would go for the mk2 BMW one. I think that most of the drawbacks have now been resolved... it is expandable, so it's normally not 'huge' unless you want it to be. It now has a map pocket that will take A4, which is also fully waterproof, whereas the Touratech one is not... having only Velcro at the closure, which does not prevent water seeping through. I had to take off the cross-brace on my new 1200GSA because the BMW bag fouled it, which was the reason I ordered a Touratech bag... the trouble is, that one fouls it too.
The biggest advantage that the Touratech bag has over the BMW bag is the mounting system, I wish BMW could have adopted that... then we could have the best of both worlds :(

Balistic is probably along the right lines. It seems BuMW have addressed many of the faults that existed in their original GS1200 bag, prompting my original post. There was cetainly a rash of bags coming up for sale a while ago, so maybe others were not 100% happy?

The new TT 'twist lock' fixing mechanism is good, better IMHO than BuMW's.

My TT bag works fine on my 2006 GSA but I think BuMW have, since then, changed the rake of the bars?

It probably only shows that, like crash helmets, it's a personal thing.

Gday

I have the new tank bag on order, the smaller redesigned bag for the adventure1200. I have a couple of questions

Am I reading this correctly does the new bag still foul on the crossbar and secondly, how waterproof is the new bag 50% 80% 100%???

Thanks in advance for the feedback.

Until we talk continue to enjoy........... many great rides.............

Not sure how to quote threads -have a look at FAMSA FA244/23 BMW R1200GS Enduro Max Tank Bag - my thread.

savagio,

Whether the mk2 bag fouls the crossbar or not will depend on which Adventure you've got... the later Adventures (mine's an '07) have the crossbar mounted higher and wider on the handlebar, which means that they will foul, although not nearly as much as the mk1 tankbag. I have a friend with an early '06 Adventure and a mk1 tankbag and he has no problems. The mk1 tankbags have a distinct 'bulge' at the front, which caused the fouling on the '07 Adventure crossbar... the mk2 tankbag has lost much of the 'bulge' and therefore fits better.
The mk1 BMW tankbag is TOTALLY waterproof, including the map pocket... I can confirm this after 2 years and 30,000 miles of experience :thumb2
Anyway, I didn't think it rained in Oz.

i got a mk 1 tank bag as part of the deal when i bought my 07 GSA. only used it in anger for the first time at the weekend.

it does foul the cross brace, only a bit & i still had the foam protector fitted. no problem.

you need to carry a ruler or something similar with you to attach and detach the front strap as it is ridiculously awkward to do without. with such a tool it is merely very awkward.
having a GSA is a big benefit here as you need to fill up less and so need to remove the bag less often :)

there are no side pockets for stashing things that might be needed on a ride (toll money/tickets etc.) the little silver detachable bag where i thought to put such things turns out to be totally inaccessible while sitting on the bike as it is buried in the riders crotch.
as to wearing it on the belt supplied when off the bike :ymca i don't think so :nono

worst thing is the back of the bag digs into the bottom of my rib cage which i found very annoying.

on the plus side, it is quite spacious.

i'm keen to see the mk 2 version in the flesh, but it appears that the side pocket deficit & mounting system remain unchanged, so i doubt i'll be bunging another £150 BMW's way.

pity my TT VP45 doesn't fit. at least with the side pockets it won't.

I've the mk 2 bag and a number of the comments Cookie made with the mk 1 are similar.

Fitting, probably easier as the strap that the lug is on the end of will be longer (I'm guessing) to avoid the cross brace. :)

Those with any sort of beer gut will also find the little bag not that easy to use :o DAMHIK

The bag has a waterproof inner, which is nice :)

No fouling of the cross brace at all :)

Mine cost me £140 IIRC

Might buy one of those cross brace bags for the toll money etc, but on balance I quite like it.

Thanks Ballistic

I've got the early 06 adventure, but I've got the wunderlich adjustable rises, which set the bars back. So I would assume that I'd be in the same boat as the 07 setback

Anyway, thanks for the feedback.

Heres a tip for wet weather riding, put ALL your wet weather clobber on and guaranteed it won't rain!!

Cheers Tony
