Tank Bag

Using an Oxford Sport tank bag I've had for a while. I didn't think it would fit on the GS at frst, and it's got magnets in to attach it to a metal tank. But Zmeagol posted pics of the same model of bag fitted to his GS using just the strap under the tank.

It does work quite nicely, not a perfect fit, but the straps under the tank and round the headstock are enough to keep it firmly in place.

I find the BWM bag is great, not cheap but really good.

It's big, fits well is relatively unobtrusive and is waterproof. The mapcase is straight from Ortleib.

I think it looks good too.

Only small downside is removing it when fuelling but it's quite quick with just a zip and clip to undo.

Well recommended.

using a bagster tank harness and a small city bag.

The tank harness is easy to fit and easy to take back off for cleaning etc, looks pretty good as well. Im hoping it will protect the tank as well as depite being over six foot tall I find getting on the bike I tend to brush against the back of the tank with the zipper area on the front of my jacket.

The bag is small (which is what I wanted) and not as well made as the Oxford Compact bag I was using on the last bike.

If some clever chap came up with a plate that would fit the tank harness but zip onto the bottom of the Oxford bag in place of the map holder and magnetic base that would be ideal for me.

Didnt go the BMW route as the bag would be too big for my needs 90% of the time.

either my arms are too short.........or my belly too big

Don't worry Dutch you're just a normal GSer.

Being skinny I'm the odd one out around here it seems:D

I'm using a bagster tank harness with the Athena bag, one word of caution(several in fact), the horn hits the bloody bag on full left lock, alas this is not appreciated by people driving tin boxes in tescos car park, they take it very personally.

I used the BMW tank bag and found it superb. Its like a tardis and will fit in loads of stuff, is 100% waterproof and looks good to. Easy to take off and leaves a nice tank in view rather than a harness.

I'm using the Touratech LC tankbag. It fits in much the same way as the real BMW one but the base of the bag has a kind of tacky rubber material ( stop - it!!)
It cost £60 + coins and will hold spare gloves, maps and camera - It's a day bag but has a nice big map pocket, the right size for 2 Michelin sections.........total claimed volume 16L - I thought the BMW bag too big....

..........actually if you have low persornal hygene standards you could probaly keep your week's supply of a spare sock and skids in it..

I had read posts stating that the BMW tankbag was too big. It almost put me off getting one. Now that it has arrived, I think it is well sized, shaped and proportioned for the bike. Seems to be well made.

Chris, I've been thinking about the Touratech LC as I only need a small bag and 'am more concerned with the need for a decent map pocket. I have my GPS mounted on the Touratech GB1 bracket (see pic) From the pictures it looks like there would be enough clearence between the bag and the unit. What do you reckon?

1200GS Tank Bag

I have the BMW tankbag and it is a much more practical size than that fitted to the 1150GS. The only snag I found was the difficulty removing and refitting when filling up. Perhaps the elastic on mine is a bit too taut - so now I unzip, remove front clip. To refit I zip up and then push front clip down with a 20cm srrip of wood I carry in the pocket; It is not very technical I know but it is very quick and easy. If I hook up first I find it virtually impossible to stretch it enough to zip up. Perhaps when the weather is warmer it will become less taut ! Regards, Brian
( I have the bag on most of the time because I have to carry the U-lock - obligatory here for insurance. Is there a fitting available for a U-lock ?)

Touratech LC pics?

I too am looking for a smaller bag than the cavernous BMW offering.

Does anyone have some pictures of the 16l TT option, if possible with close ups of the fitting.

Cheers
